No official word from LE, but this article says "local sources" have confirmed it's Jessica.

Local media sources have confirmed on Thursday that Colorado police have found the body of missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway in a field a few miles from her home....

WESTMINSTER — Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso told a 6:45 a.m. news conference Thursday there is no new information about a body found last night....

Police said investigators worked through the night in efforts to positively identify the body.....

...The FBI said investigators do not believe the Colorado and Wyoming cases are related....

There's a map at the bottom of the story linked above that show's the locations of Jessica's home and the sites where the body and backpack were found.

I shudder to think what must have been done to the body that it's taking so long to get a positive identification.

Ugh. I doubt it's a coincidental body so I imagine it's her. Sad and yes, you have to wonder why identification is taking so long.

So this guy was released because??????

I was just going to say that! Why the hell would they ever release him?

Buick in NH has been ruled out as having a connection to Jessica's case (but how odd that on Sunday, a woman reported seeing a girl that looked like Jessica in a blue Buick station wagon, and then a few days later about 30 miles away they find an abandoned car fitting that description with Colorado plates).

The head and hands must be missing. LE officers have been doing shoulder-to-shoulder line searches of the adjacent area. It's unlikely animals dragged those parts off and that they'll be found nearby. Hope they find this perp ASAP.

I agree with Username, I think it might just be a little too coincidental for it not to be Jessica. I hope against hell it isn't, but them this would still be somebody's child.

To think the body is dismembered, oh gawd poor child.

Not much news in Jessica's case. Positive ID may be made today (I suppose that means DNA results will be in).

In the Wyoming case where a guy abducted and raped an 11 year old girl (now said to be not related to Jessica's case), LE has photos of what they think is the suspects car. Hopefully that will lead to the perp's identification and apprehension.

Law enforcement believe the suspect vehicle is a 2004 or 2005, white four-door Toyota SR-5 4-Runner with a removable silver over black cargo box on the roof. It is believed, however, that the cargo box has been removed from the top of the vehicle, according to a Federal Bureau of Investigations Denver Division media release.

Poor parents! I honestly don't know how some people go on living after having something like this happen to their child. I think I'd go absolutely insane with grief.

If they determined she was raped too...I think I'd shoot myself (after I found and killed the freak of nature that did it, of course).

So true, if I let myself think about it, I don't that I could go on, I just know I would be thinking of those final hours and what she went through etc, I would probably need heavy sedation as I would torture myself with those thoughts each day.

Don't shoot yourself after you kill the SOB, leave the country.

Latest News:

What began as a desperate search in Colorado for 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway has now turned into the hunt for a possible suspect with the release of a behavioral profile of the killer.

Police believe that the body found this week in Arvada, Colo., seven miles from where she disappeared is Jessica's.

The suspect is likely male and might have recently missed work or suddenly left town, according to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The suspect might have already changed his appearance and gotten rid of his car.

"It could be your boss, it could be your friend and, ultimately, it could be your family member," FBI spokesman David Joly said.

The FBI is asking for the public's help locating the suspect, who might have been a "no show" and missed work immediately after the incident and offered a plausible excuse such as illness, death in the family or car trouble.

The individual might express an intense interest in the status of the investigation and pay close attention to the media. But some offenders might quickly turn off media accounts or try to redirect conversations concerning the victims or their families, according to the FBI.

Joly said the public should be looking for "abnormal behavior."

Investigators are now focusing on cellphone towers near Jessica's Westminster, Colo., home, where her backpack was found and where the remains were discovered in Arvada, Colo. If a phone number registers at all three towers, it could lead to a suspect.

Hundreds of officers continue to search fields, ravines and neighborhoods today near the park in Arvada where the body was found Wednesday night, seven miles from where Ridgeway disappeared last Friday.

Police haven't officially tied the crime scene at the Pattridge Park open space to the missing girl. But several law enforcement sources tell ABC News they believe the remains belong to Jessica. An announcement of a positive identification is expected today.

The condition of the body is delaying identification because the boy was "not intact," police said Thursday.

"This is extending the length of time it's taking for investigators to positively identify who that body is," Westminster Police Department spokesman Trevor Materasso said during a news conference.

Materasso said authorities expect to have a news conference later today to release more information.

Police were alerted to the body Wednesday night hours after they said that Ridgeway's parents were not suspects in her disappearance.

I think about the kids in that area too. It's bad enough if a child is abducted and killed by strangulation or a hit on the head, but to know that a child was butchered afterwards... I can hardly stand to think about it. My daughter was in the 4th grade when Polly was was abducted, raped, and strangled about 20 miles from us. I tried to keep the news from her, but she heard about it from friends, and became very fearful for months after.

I think that as a parent, afterwards, to keep from going insane, you'd have to do as so many parents of murdered and missing children do, and start a foundation or take up a cause that has the potential to save another child from a similar fate.

True. A cause might help. I live close to where polly was abducted btw. Smiley_emoticons_slash Maybe we're neighbors.

Interesting about the cellphone tower pings. I hope they come up with something from that.

Feed this guy to wild animals.

I'll keep saying it 'til someone finally introduces legislation and it's passed into law.

'If you abduct, rape and kill a child, you will be fed to wild animals at the discretion of the victims family'.

Seems easy enough.

In tangential news, an arrest has been made in the Cody, Wyoming, abduction and rape of a young girl:

http://kdvr.com/2012/10/13/suspect-sketc...tion-case/

In Jessica's case, the mainstream media is finally reporting on the two earlier attempted abductions in Arvada (Arvada is adjacent to Westminster where Jessica disappeared). But this story doesn't show the sketch of the creep who tried to lure two girls into his car with candy, and doesn't mention that Clyde Hall, sex offender on the US Marshal's 15 Most Wanted list, looks exactly like that sketch.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jessica-ridgewa...HwhXxiyMvo

... Police in Arvada, Colo., are looking for a man suspected of trying to abduct two children a few weeks before 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway's killing to see whether there is a possible connection.

In two reported incidents on Sept. 9 and Sept. 12, Arvada police said an 8- and 9-year-old were nearly abducted, according to police.

"Both of them said they were offered candy to get into the vehicle. In both incidences, they knew to run and tell an adult," Arvada police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan told ABC News affiliate KMGH-TV. ...]
