XMAS CONT. OF DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY THREAD

My one and only saving grace, QB is that my hubby and I made a rule about 5 yrs ago that we don't leave on Christmas day. We stay in our jammies with the kids and let them play w/ their stuff and eat the leftover shrimp etc..

This is my biggest pet peeve with Christmas. My son is 4 and for the past 3 Christmases we have woken up, quickly opened gifts, and rushed off to my in-laws to have breakfast and open gifts. I've told my husband every year that i just want to be able to stay home and enjoy our morning instead of rushing around. I gave in the past few years but I told him this year, we don't leave the house on Christmas. Whoever wants to stop by can, but we won't be leaving. He hasn't broke it to the in-laws yet, that should be exciting.

Get ready, RAP - it will be tough this year. Every time you start to feel guilty (I always feel guilty) just think of your kids and how fun it will be for them to stay at home and play on Christmas and how fun it will be for you and hubby to relax and watch them. As a kid, I had to go all over creation on Christmas and I hated it - I would've forgone all the gifts I got from all those places (and you know how important the gifts are to a kid) to just be able to stay home.

And after all.....you've made it known that if anyone wants to stop by, they can. I just tell them not to expect me wearing a bra.

what are you dreading about Christmas?

I'm not dreading anything. I'm looking forward to the peace & quiet, eating seafood and spending the day doing only what I feel like doing when I feel like doing it.

I got a Christmas card from the former Mrs. Cowboy, she has invited us for drinks. I am a bit unnerved.

WhaWhaWhaaaaaaaaaa? That would unnerve me too.

He laughed, he thought the weirdness of it would appeal to me given I hangout with all of you.

No, I'm not going. I think that invitation is in direct response to me recently mailing her something. I came across a bible in a beautiful wooden box, I knew it was special the moment I saw the box, anyway it was something they had received when they were married, there are dates recorded in it that still hold significance to them and when I asked if he wanted to keep it he said no so I sent it to her.

He actually went over and told them this afternoon and get this, they didn't like doing the Christmas morning thing anyways! Well hell, if someone had said something 3 years ago we wouldn't have a problem! So we agreed to do Christmas Eve dinner instead of Christmas morning breakfast. Win-win!
