Missing Child Alert: Kayla Campbell
Via TruTVPolice in North Carolina and the FBI continue the search for missing Mint Hill teen Kayla Campbell, 16, who has been missing since Sunday. Kayla left her home at around 2:30 p.m. on December 9, 2012, on her bicycle, saying that she would be back in a few hours. According to her family, Kayla had been battling depression, but “Kayla was getting better,” said her brother, Josh, “She was working with professionals who were getting her the help she needs and she was getting better.” When she was not back by 5:15, however, her family began to worry. Kayla’s father called police at 6 p.m. to report her missing.
The following day searchers found Kayla’s bike in a pond located about a quarter mile from the Independence High School student’s home, her helmet and cell phone were nearby. According to Mint Hill police Lt. J.K. Rowell, police “have no reason to believe there was an abduction.” Divers searched the pond that afternoon, while searchers checked the area around the pond, but did not find any sign of the girl. On Tuesday searchers covered and area about a half-mile away from the pond along Interstate-485 and Bartlett Road. In all, searchers covered 7-8 square miles over those three days.
Investigators also took the family’s computers and are searching Kayla’s phone’s records, and contacting her friends in an effort to find out where she might have gone.
Kayla is described as a white female, approximately 5-feet, 6-inches tall, weighing 115 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
