I have a childhood friend that became a JW about 8 years ago. She was always a crazy bitch, but now she's a real crazy bitch. The only time she comes around anymore is to give me Watch Tower pamphlets which I politely take. They are entertaining to read, but I may as well just believe in the Pilsbury Doughman.

I tried to have the Adam and Eve discussion with them once, but I think I may have offended them because they don't come around much anymore. Fucking idiots.

I believe that every human has a soul; an intangible entity that encompasses personality, thought, emotions.

I have no idea whether the soul continues to exist (or what happens to it) after the body dies.

I try to nourish my soul for the long haul, just in case. Every Thursday, I eat ham hocks and black-eyed peas while listening to James Brown.

That but I tend to believe it just goes *poof*. Hopefully we're remembered fondly for a generation or two. Smiley_emoticons_slash

What happens when we die?

Do you believe in souls?

My belief is that when one dies his/her soul goes to Heaven (or Hell). Then on the day that God raises all from the dead our bodies (new bodies) are joined with the soul.

I never doubted the existence of God or Heaven, but when I lost my mom who was also my dearest friend, I was haunted by "Where is she right now?" The Bible says that God will raise the dead - did that mean that she would be non-existent until Judgement Day. BUT the Bible also says that Jesus said to the two thieves on the crosses that "Today you shall be with me in paradise". I got so confused - researched, read every book I could get my hands on, and finally in one of Billy Graham's books I read what is similar to my first paragraph. That was a turning point for me and I wondered no more.

What a depressing thought that when one dies there is no hope and one just ceases to exist. Don't get me wrong, I do not want to die but am looking forward to that great big happy reunion when I will see all of my loved ones again. To quote the song "What a Day of Rejoicing that will Be" comes to mind.

Want to add that during our 6 months on the terminal cancer floor at the hospital, I talked to a lot of patients and nurses. The nurses said that anyone who doubts there is a God just needs to come to our floor and witness what happens as one is dying. I still get cold chills when I think about some of those statements.

That's why religion is the largest business in the world, people are scared of the afterlife even if they won't admit it. We take ourselves so seriously that the thought of no afterlife, or even worse hell, makes otherwise rational human beings follow irrational beliefs.

Not to mention how they steal the money out of these peoples pockets and live opposite of what they preach!

The problem with death in humans is they are kinda big, so when they die it sometimes takes 30 min of twitching, wiggling, fluttering eyes, spasms in the legs all kinds of thrashing around as nobody can get rid of the basic animal ferosity to stay alive. We revert , but there are some people who can die and not move an inch. Those are the ones taking the ride on the great yellow mothership in the sky, moving on with a smile.

My mom has lung cancer and they gave her a pamphlet on the dying process, WTF? I really should call the oncology center and complain, WTF are they trying to do, scare the shit out of everyone.

Anyway, pretty much all the organs start shutting down which is no surprise, the person has no control over their bodily fluids, they turn blue and become increasingly drowsy and sometimes hallucinate before death.

"in my opinion" you should have added, Sally.

Yes, I''m afraid to die - I do not want to suffer. However, I am not afraid of eternal life thereafter.

Sally, I'm really sorry about your mom. I think the doctors today are trying to prepare the family for the inevitable. But in your last paragraph they went overboard with the details. imo
