Ms. Brown falls under that 40%, no doubt. She takes the cake in terms of bullshit.
She amended her bill after the public outrage; it now has a clause that states the mother of the fetus cannot be prosecuted. BUT, she didn't change the clause about facilitating an abortion as being a felony, thereby leaving doctors, nurses, and clinical staff open to prosecution if they knowingly perform an abortion on a rape/incest victim (assuming this bill had any chance in hell of being passed into law).
She still claims her intent is to keep incest/rape victims from being forced/coerced into getting abortions by their rapists. If that were the case, she could simply propose adding another charge against rapists in existing criminal law. As far as "destroying evidence", DNA can be gathered from fetuses and rape kits; labeling babies as pieces of crime evidence for the state is shameful, imo.
Ms. Brown is a lawyer, her initial draft was reviewed and signed by 9 other like-minded legislators, and unsurprisingly she's a board member for the Carlsbad Right To Life Committee.
I wonder how many people who voted for her initially would vote for her again. Lots of people object to abortion, but that doesn't mean that they support their representatives lying and attempting to penalize rape victims and/or hospital staff. I hope Brown is removed from office.
