I'm sure you've heard about it, right?
Double standard baby, gotta love it.
I just looked it up and from what I have read Rangel is known and admired for his fairness and his just evaluation of events. Makes me wonder if there isn't some truth to that remark. (not excusing his choice of words)

I am just not sure Rangle always uses his best judgement.

Some high profile blacks have been speaking up on his behalf. They believe his apology is sincere. There are (black) men who he has basically lived with the past 3-4 years who are saying Riley isn't racist at all. This has been blown so out of proportion and the media just won't shut the hell up about it.
I'm kinda sorry I have LeSean McCoy's jersey now given he's being such a twat about this mess.

At first I thought it could blow over but now I'm not so sure.

You should be grateful for all the attention your Eagles are receiving.
It's a forgone conclusion that their season will be mediocre and therefore, off the media's radar.
Enjoy your racially PC drama and all the fanfare associated with Riley . . . and come November . . . long for ANY coverage about your birds.

Zero, Rangel the Red is a hot mess... you should do some more reading about him.
He's become a corrupt, tax evading charlatan. If it wasn't for his Korean war service, I'd have nothing nice at all to say about him.

Every one can remember what brought Al Sharpton to national attention. It's taken more than 25 years for a falsely accused white man to be awarded damages in this debacle.
Pay-up time for Brawley: '87 rape-hoaxer
Finally shells out for slander
Just $431,000 to go
The jurors, who heard from 180 witnesses over seven months, concluded in 1988 that the entire story was a hoax.
They determined Brawley had run away from home and concocted the story.......
Sharpton, now a national figure, has never apologized for his role in the hoax.

After all the public fall-out for Paula Deen...
The judge presiding over the workplace discrimination case against Paula Deen and Bubba Hiers dismissed the charges of race-based discrimination yesterday.
The judge added that to allow Ms. Jackson to seek legal recourse for discrimination directed toward other workers “would serve to conscript federal courts as human resource departments that are responsible for imposing and monitoring a federally created standard for harmony in the workplace.”
Jackson is white; her racial discrimination claim was based on alleged racial jokes and separate entrances for black restaurant employees of Deen and Hiers. Jackson contended that she was offended on behalf of the black employees.
The sexual harassment charges still stand; the judge will rule on those at a later date.

She wanted to sue because she was offended by what she perceived as discrimination against others??? Yea, she just wants money. I'm glad her case was thrown out.

They did try to help her early on, Jimbone.
Jesse Jackson spoke up on behalf of Paula Deen when the shit was really hitting the fan.
Al Sharpton also made a public statement that he didn't care if she used the word "nigger' 27 years ago.
They both took hits for it, but made good sense, IMO, in their views that she shouldn't be destroyed for something that happened so long ago in a different era.

I channeled surfed last night after I climbed in bed & I came across a movie called The Help. I think I've been oblivious to exactly what blacks went through in their fight for equality. I knew about separate entrances, step to the back of the bus, blacks/whites couldn't drink out of the same water fountain, etc. but there are many things I wasn't aware of.
Some white people are hypocritical fucks & I'm not talking about myself.

Read the book The Help. It's really good and goes more in depth about the characters. The movie is good too. I loved them both.

I don't think I ever knew a white person could be jailed for being with a black or that all families with "help" had to have a separate bathroom in their homes for them. There was actually quite a few things I didn't know or maybe I knew it and choose to disregard it, I don't know.

As an aside...it was pretty funny to see the one uppity white eat her maid's shit. It made me gag but I got a laugh out of it too. She got her just dessert. *snicker*

I took the kids to see it with my SIL. We died laughing at that part. We were still laughing on the way home.

No no, I meant the rallies, marches, and boycotts that they throw for all of their other race hustles. THAT'S how they affect change... not with statements of support.
I expect we'll see them both helping Paula get her career back any day now.

I'm not sure what point it is you're trying to make, Jimbone.
Somehow Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who didn't exploit the situation and have nothing to do with business decisions to fire Deen for past remarks (and how poorly she handled initial reaction), are responsible? They should arrange public protests or should feel some obligation to work towards helping Deen to re-establish her career? I'm not following the logic.
You (or anyone else who feels so strongly) could arrange a rally, march or boycott the fact that she was fired by primarily white business leaders and rejected by a largely white consumer base.
Freedom of speech, expression and public assembly are at your disposal (and can help to affect change, IMO).
