I was about to applaud the over the counter part until I read "under 17". That's very young.

Why? Reportedly, the judge based his decision on the fact that health risks for younger women are no greater than those for women over 17. Ergo, it's akin to the FDA saying someone under 17 can't buy Tylenol.

His criticism was that the FDA was overstepping its bounds and legislating morality.

Since this pill prevents pregnancy (doesn't abort an existing pregnancy like Plan B), I don't see why it should be any different than boys buying condoms. There's no age requirement for them.

ETA: If they're gonna do it anyway, I think condoms are preferable due to STD prevention. But, the morning after pill, which is already distributed at some high schools, is preferable to unwanted pregnancies when condoms aren't used or break.

I think its a good thing. Yes 14 or 15 is young, but if you have a 14 yr old daughter out there somewhere you can bet theres some asshole wanting to get in her panties. To me a lil pill is a lot better than the alternative.
That said, I sweated every day until my daughter made it to 18 still a virgin far as I know.
But you never really know, do you?

The instructions are similar to any over the counter medication, though I understand the concern about kids taking anything unsupervised. With my niece and nephew, I spoke openly with them about sex and birth control, but advocated abstinence. Did my best, but you can't control them. I was glad that condoms were readily accessible if they decided to have sex anyway. I'm glad that the morning after pill will be available for my younger nieces now. Hope they don't need it, but if they do...

I misspoke about Plan B - it's not the abortion pill, it is one of the female contraception pills. Mifepristone and Misoprostol are the abortion pills. Those are much more involved and can have serious side effects; they are still required to be administered by medical professionals.

After reading a little more about it I have changed my tune. I think they should be given out by the handful in ghettos across America in place of welfare checks.

I was young when i started having sex but i'm not sure my mom would of had me take the Plan B. Although, she did start me on birth control.
