walking while black - Trayvon Martin
(03-26-2012, 11:07 AM)Lady Cop Wrote: LC maybe you can answer this for me. How was he approved for a weapon when he still had these charges against him?

he wasn't convicted. so he had the right to carry.

That to me is a fine line, especially when we have Plea Deals and PTI's being handed down. They were initially charged with a specific crime, that possibly could have been proven accurate. So scary, that your allowed to carry a weapon as long as you are never formally charged with a serious crime. He has serious charges that would indicate this was not self defense.

Let the rumors begin, I have read just in this thread about 4 different accounts of that evening. Holy Moly this is going to get ugly. This shooter isn’t going to be safe anywhere, if he goes to jail he is good as dead.

Its still a confrontation HE instigated for no legal reason. Now days I run around armed, have since I was 18 or so. I have been out walking at night and encountered security many times. My interaction with them depended on their attitude and my mood. If they were just checking I might talk to them, but have told more han one to fuck off. This kid may have chosen to fight the guy thas stalking/chasing him for no discernable reason from the kids view. Again, if Zimmerman would have stayed inside the legal boundaries this would not have happened.

Quoted for truth. The Martin kid did pretty much exactly what I would have done if somebody was stalking me through the neighborhood, and for the idiot who said"Oh here's some pictures where he's acting all hard and by the way it's the black kids and the president causing trouble" horseshit. It's the guy who stalked and harassed and shot a kid who caused the trouble. What color he was is irrelevant. What clowning he did for cameras is irrelevant. Any attempt to add them to the legal process is just muddying the waters.

Apparently you have more info than the rest of us, at this point we have a lot of speculation, guesses and not much by way of solid evidence as to what actually happened.

You may have also missed the rallies and reward that is and are being held by the new black panters, apparently someone thinks the skin color mattered including the President of the US.

If and I mean if the color of the victim didn't matter why is this case getting the attention while others barely get a blurb in the local papers?

I'd feel the same way if the shooter was black. I have only based my opinion on what I've read and that is, the kid was returning from the store but because he was a black wearing a hoodie he was automatically judged as being suspicious. The wannabe was told he didn't have to follow the kid yet a confrontation happened & now the kid is dead.

You're not the first to question why this kid & not another. The fact is that there is a thread about this kid & not another, that's why another kid isn't being discussed, you want to discuss another kid then author a thread, it's that simple.

Hmmm, let's see...he murdered a kid armed with skittles & iced tea.

What FACTS are you basing this on? Not speculation, not opinion, not gut feeling or emotion - what facts? We have no facts or hard evidence to support that claim.

Anyone who claims they don't judge others (good or bad) based on their personal life experiences and emotions is full of shit. It is human nature. People are ASSUMING that Zimmerman judged this kid because he was black and refusing to consider the possibility that Trayvon really was up to no good. Do 17 year olds commit burglaries, assaults, car jackings? Every day. Do middle age cop want to bes get on power trips? Sure they do. But we have no EVIDENCE that either of these things happened and there is literally a bounty on this man's head.

Google this 19 year old "kid" who raped and killed his 85 year old white neighbor a couple of weeks ago. If Zimmerman had alerted the police to this guy would he be a hero? Would you feel differently if Trayvon looked like this? Don't lie to yourself.

Hey, this kid could be Obama's son too right? Why isn't he demanding to know how THIS kid and this poor couple ended up in these circumstances?

I am just saying things aren't always as black and white as the media tries to make them. Sometimes there are shades of gray. Or in this case, WHITE latino.

The 911 call offers some evidence. Granted there's still a ton unknown.

Fact 1, the kid was unarmed, except for skittles and iced tea
Fact 2, the kid had every right to be where he was and was commiting no crimes
Fact 3, Zimmerman had a problem with that and called in
Fact 4, He was told not to persue
Fact 5, he did in fact persue
Fact 6, he got out of his vehicle and there was come kind of confrontation wherin Zimmerman recieved injuries
Fact 7, He then shot the kid
Fact 8, If he had remained in his vehicle this would not have happened
Fact 9, If he had done what he was told to do it would not have happened
Fact 10, if you kill someone intentionally or accidentially while doing something stupid or illegal anywhere in this country you held responsible for that death and will be charged with anything from Negligent Homicide, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Manslaughter, 2nd Degree Murder, the list goes on.

This jackwagon is guilty. The only reason any of it happened at all was that Zimmerman was suffering from testosterone poisoning and either fear or hatred for blacks.

Please direct me to the evidence in the 911 calls that George confronted or accosted the boy? I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I keep hearing that and I don't see it. What specific part of the call provides solid evidence that any crime, much less murder, was committed?

I think he was definitely the aggressor, but unfortunately there is no solid evidence that he provoked a physical altercation with the kid and there are no witnesses that saw the beginning of the fight. So he can say whatever he wants now, especially if thats him screaming for help on the tape.

to be precise, zimmerman was/is NOT a cop. he had no authority to carry in that neighborhood watch capacity, nevermind shoot to kill. a cop would have used other non-lethal means before a bullet.

I know he is not a cop, that is why I said "want to be". I still think it remains to be seen whether it was actually self defense or not. Not enough evidence made public to say either way yet. I DO think he should have at the very least been taken into custody and thoroughly questioned.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE that he should have been brought in for a formal statement. a police officer would have been. there should have been an affidavit written that night.

your "want to bes" confused me a little, i didn't realize it was wannabe. yes, zimmerman was a cop wannabe.

SANFORD, Fla. – Trayvon Martin had been suspended from school for marijuana when the unarmed teenager was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer, a family spokesman said Monday.

Martin, 17, was suspended by Miami-Dade County schools because traces of marijuana were found in a plastic baggie in his book bag, family spokesman Ryan Julison said. Martin was shot Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman while he was visiting Sanford with his father.

"We maintain that regardless of the specific reason for the suspension, it's got nothing to do with the events that unfolded on Feb. 26," Julison said.

Also Monday, the state Department of Juvenile Justice confirmed that Martin does not have a juvenile offender record. The information came after a public records request by The Associated Press.

do zimmerman's injuries support this statement? were they seen/documented?

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.

In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

Nina,

You must be very young. I don't consider 28 to be middle-aged - at my age that's still a young man. The older one gets, middle-age keeps going up. Smiley_emoticons_smile

I read that his injuries were minor and he didn't go to the hospital untill the following day. I think he got out of his truck when the kid wouldn't answer to him and did something to provoke a fight, the kid defended himself and he shot him. Now the bastard is going to get away with it.

The escalation of the events that night were because of Zimmerman. I have had the uncomfortable experience where someone in a car stalked me when I was walking in my own neighborhood, where I have lived since 1979 and and it really irritated me. They had concurrently called the police and followed me so as to let the police know where to come to stop me. The police had me put my hands up as he asked me questions. I was 2 blocks from my house and it was 8pm Thanksgiving night 2011. If the civic minded person who assumed that I was suspicious had tried to do it instead of the police I may have considered him a threat to my life and done the same thing Trayvon did. Attacked him out of fear for my safety.

According to the Police Report, Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and his nose.

Just a couple of questions:

Wasn't Zimmerman hired to be his neighborhood watch captain, and thus, wouldn't he be required to check out EVERY single person in that gated complex?

Now that it's come to light that the girlfriend of Trayvon's dad did NOT live in the gated community, wouldn't it stand to reason that Trayvon, when noticed by Zimmerman, would draw attention? Why was he there?
Was it a short-cut to the apt complex?

For those who say Zimmerman was overzealous (he'd called 911 46 other times), I'd like to know how many times he drew his weapon? Or discharged it? The answer is probably 'zero'.

So, why did he end up shooting this night? People say he provoked Martin, but did he really? Did Trayvon actually attack first? Remember, Trayvon was technically the one that was not supposed to be there.

This is a horrible situation, and the Sanford police have bungled it. How do you not at least bring Zimmerman in? On the surface, it sure would look like a cover-up, especially if I were a relative of Trayvon.

Do we really need armed neighborhood watchmen? If so, there will be more tragedies like this.
