As I have mentioned many times before (to the point I sound like an insufferable bitch with Dementia), my life's interests and passions are the result of family.
Specifically, in this instance, my brothers' love for Springsteen when he was an unknown, in the 1970's. Remember . . . this was a time with no internet . . and 8 tracks, too.
KDKB, was the Valley's FM station that played non-top 40 . . . run by hippies who played full albums and cuts, not promoted by major labels or AM stations.
Springsteen was HUGE here. I was a kid in grade school and my oldest brother was in high school. Springsteen was one of many ruling the airwaves of home and car. His sound was brash, bold with story telling lyrics coupled with the eclectic fusion of instruments and time changes. A new sound, by a new rebel poet telling tales of love, hope, inspiration and life, raw and yet complicated (This is gist of the explanation of why I should, too, pay attention to this artist . . . by my brother).
When he came to town, two-night concerts sold out . . before tickets went on sale! And, this, without national airplay AND before Born to Run.
Come to find out, my brother and a few of his high school chums bought this new rebel a leather jacket (they thought it was a "cool for cool" tribute . . . really an excuse to get backstage) and presented it to him after one of his concerts. They even got to hang with Bruce and the band after the show where he and the band signed their album covers.
So . . . the leather jacket he is wearing on the Born to Run album cover, it the one presented to him, by adoring, loyal and awestruck high-school students . . . who recognized his genius in their youth . . . and one of them being my brother.
