ATHENS, Ga. -- Police have swarmed an Athens neighborhood in their search for a man accused of shooting two police officers.
Authorities told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez the family of 33-year-old Jamie Hood has been brought to the location, but they would not disclose why. Channel 2's Richard Elliot got a call from Hood's mother, Azalee Hood, saying she spoke with her son and that he told her that he wanted to turn himself in.
Authorities said Hood is negotiating with police to surrender. Officials told Channel 2 Action News Hood may have hostages.
Bojorquez reported a very active scene at Oconee and Grove streets, just east of Highway 78. He said there are several businesses in the area that police have surrounded.
