But, I understand that not everyone cares for the debates or gets the same things from them.

You get smoke up your ass; I get a better for the candidates on a few different fronts.
You get what their writers want you to see.

You might be more simple-minded and just take things at face value, Gunnar. Nothing wrong with that.

But, a lot of us get more out of a speech, a debate, a public statement, a protest Smiley_emoticons_hurra3...than just the words themselves, whether some of those words are practiced/supplied or not.

Anyway, it's impossible to script how one candidate will react to another when an unexpected point, dig, compliment, etc...is tossed out there. Anytime there's group interaction and point / counter-point, there's bound to be some on-the-spot reactions and responses.

I will watch as much of the debate as I can because I'm interested and get more out of it than you. I'm not trying to convince you that you should watch or get something out of it. It's Thursday; I understand that you'll probably be tuned into Sponge Bob and tossing back Dos Equis with your compadres.
You just called me fat again! The_Villagers

And I will watch the debates with Trump, because I suspect it will be a train wreck.
And Dos Equis is panther piss.

I like the Donald because he tells it like it is just like I do.
I'm not sure I would vote for him unless he tones it down though. There's a big difference between me (or you) telling someone what they need to hear without sugar coating it with bullshit...and a Presidential candidate talking to the whole world the way he does. He needs to be more professional if he wants the job.
I think tonight will tell us if he's serious or not.

IMO...Carly took the first debate. I would love to see her and Hillary debate one on one. Carly would clean Hills clock.

Hillary is seeing her White House ship slowly sinking and the bilge pumps ain't helping it keep afloat.

Since our first "black" president wasn't a looker, our first female president shouldn't have cankles.

I'd love to have a President who isn't afraid to be brash with the world or world leaders.

I'm tired of the public face and the "behind closed doors" face not being the same.

I'm hot for Trump in the White House.

At least we'll have an attractive First Lady who knows fashion.

And less cost for security . . . no kids.

Yes . . . I know he has a son.

Do you really think he'd abandon his private security for whoring and drunken SS agents . . . to protect Baron?

Ted Cruz is such a fake and a total bullshitter, IMO.

He really rubs me wrong.

Marco Rubio, on the other hand... He's on my short list.

According to Huckabee's bullshit, you support murder Mags.

He wants to go beyond de-funding Planned Parenthood to prevent women from getting abortions.

He wants to invoke the 5th and 14th amendments on behalf of the fetuses, even before that arbitrary 8-week abortion cut-off you've drawn for women.

Ohio governor Kasich has done a lot of good things in his state, including areas related to the criminal justice system.

I like what I know about him and his qualifications (he was the budget chair the last time the country had a balanced budget).

So far...

Holy Shit Donald!!

HAHAHAhahaha...I can't help it. I love this shit!

Trump has my vote...so far.

Chris Wallace is a moderator in the debate.

He's tried to get Trump to provide his source/evidence to back up his oft-repeated claim that the Mexican government is sending criminals over the border into the US as part of some program/strategy.

Wallace failed. Trump's only source is that he visited the border and that he thinks politicians here are stupid. He wants to build a big wall at the border to keep illegals out. But, it will have a door to let immigrants in legally.

One thing Trump was mostly right about, I don't think candidates would be speaking out as much on the always controversial topic of immigration were it not for Trump's rhetoric.

Chris Christie and Rand Paul going at it. Good stuff! (I like both of them better than most on the stage.)

I agree with Christie when it comes to terror. I think the government needs sufficient tools and don't care that they were screening my phone records for the sole purpose of quickly sniffing out domestic terrorists before they strike. Christie was the U.S. attorney right after 911 and has prosecuted terrorists.

Paul is a Libertarian in reality. He argues that the Bill of Rights, specifically the 4th amendment, trumps all and the government should have to get warrants to search citizens' phone records.

Jeb Bush said invading Iraq was a mistake.

He said it was a mistake which was based on "bad intelligence".

However, he respects the men and women who fought for our country.

(I like what I know of Bush's "earned citizenship" plan to address illegal immigration.)

Ben Carson is advocating for a flat tax.

Bush and Rubio (former Florida governor and current Florida senator) agree that education curriculum should be created and managed at the state and local levels.

They both say educational standards need to be high and if states want to opt out of Common Core, they should be able to do so if their standards are high.

Bush says he upped the graduation of impoverished school children by 50% as Florida governor. He thinks fighting the teachers' union is part of what needs to be done to improve educational quality. He also thinks America will never be able to compete with other countries if "dumbing down" continues and we don't get above 30% of high school graduates being "college ready".

Carson is accusing Hillary Clinton of trying to destroy the country for her own benefit.

He says she uses idiots; he doesn't seem to like that she's "secular".

He's not very compelling on the debate stage, IMO.

Scott Walker didn't achieve the 250,000 new jobs promise he made when elected as governor of Wisconsin.

When asked about it, he essentially responded that 'it's much better than it was'.

He says that improving the economy should not / can not be accomplished by growing the federal government.

Christie wants to reform social security by cutting the benefits to those retirees who have high retirement income and liquid assets.

Huckabee disagrees. He says every worker paid into SS without a choice and it's wrong to take away the benefit.

Christie doesn't disagree with Huckabee that Congresspersons should give up their entitlements.
