KICKING A HABIT
#21
My husband quit smoking cold turkey about 6 years ago.

He got a DUI and had to do 2 days in jail. He called me when he got out, and told me to get rid of everything related to smoking. He then preceded to go to the wholesale club and buy a ton of toothpicks and chewing gum.

Not even flies will touch low fat spreads.

If its not good enough for flies who will happily eat dog shit then its not good enough for me.

I stopped eating margarine a few years ago after I read it was one molecule away from being plastic. I've since learned that's bullshit but it was enough to put me off it forever with no looking back.

There is an organic spread called Smart Balance that is all natural if you really don't want to give up your spread. It doesn't have hydrogenated oil like margarine.

I just use real butter in moderation. Same with sugar. I only eat it once in a while, but when I do I want the real stuff, not artificial.

I usually but I can't believe it's not butter spread and spray. I have been using real butter lately though. I don't use butter very often. Now that Mike has been diagnosed as a diabetic, I've been researching a diabetic diet. Time for all of us to eat healthier.

A thin layer of unsalted butter is good enough for me on bread etc.

I was paranoid about being diabetic a while ago, my grandad developed type 2 when he retired.

It got to the point my GP was getting pissed off “how many blood tests do you want me to do? You aren't diabetic sod off”

Maybe in Hooterville Mississippi but most jails will not let you.

You can't smoke anywhere in America any more, that's only a slight exaggeration. The cigarette police now will ticket you on the beach & in the park and in some places you aren't allowed to smoke if you have children in your vehicle.

It's not unusual to drive by places of business and see workers huddled outside puffing away. Some employers have even erected shelters for them. hah

Its similar here now.

Smoking in the workplace, shopping malls or bars and restaurants is banned here as well.

There has been talk about banning it in jails but there would probably be riots.

They banned it in any government building or facility here a few years ago. That didn't include jails, but the murmurs about getting it done are getting stronger and stories about it have been common many news outlets. Most are saying it will be banned in the next 12-18 months.

Interesting to read was the statistic that 80% of inmates smoke.

In the middle east you can smoke everywhere, their planes allow smoking, restaurants, cars everywhere.

In my state they are banning smoking in the jails.

Sally is trying to quit smoking. It can't be easy given how addictive nicotine is. Have you ever kicked a habit? Got any words of wisdom for her?

I was smoking over the Christmas period, with all the partying and other stuff. I really don't want to take up smoking again, it's much better not smoking and being out of breath when having to chase after a psych patient or man.

I used patches, I bought the really strong ones, and I only used two. The rest of the packet sits on my desk 'just in case'.

Its probably the only vice they have left.

Cigarettes are sometimes used as currency in prisons.

Even if they ban them they'll get them somehow. Drugs and alcohol are readily available in many prisons at the right price.

They own many of the smoke shops here. Donut shops too now that I think of it.

Tobacconists are a thing of the past here.

If supermarkets sell cigarettes they have to be hidden from public display.
