Burning the flag
#21
I can burn anything I want, if I go out and buy an American flag & a British flag and a Bible and a Koran I can burn them all if I want to because they are my personal propoerty.

And there's nothing anyone can do about it.

There were some other countries who were snippy about their flags as well, they were called Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia and post Cultural Revolution China.

People get pissy when the American flag is disrespected, particularly vets. I don't blame them a wit. They all did an honorable thing by fighting for their country. Fuck all if I'm going to risk my life & limb for a bunch of ingrates. It ain't happening.

How can you “disrespect” a piece of colourful cloth is what I'm saying?

What the flag represents is far more important than the flag itself to me anyway.

Don't be an obtuse moron. The act of burning a flag is meant to garner a reaction... News Flash...It works.
Your right, you can go out and by any symbol of any country in the world, religion, ethnic group or whatever and burn it, all it will do is make you a douchbag, and possibly get your ass kicked. You can spout all kinds of words, yap, yap, yap, you will still be a douchbag.
Don't say I didn't warn you

There's only one moron around here and in his avatar he's dressed as a homosexual musketeer.

I have already said I personally would never burn a flag but if I wanted to I could and there would be nothing you could do about it. There's nothing obtuse about it fucknut, MY flag, MY property mind your own business and fuck off douchebag.

Flags are meaningless what they represent is what's important but being a mouth breathing retard that fact will never penetrate your dense numbskull.

It means if someone caught you burning the American flag and the opportunity presented itself they would beat the living fuck out of you.

Sometimes you have to explain shit nice and simple.

You don't have any right to put your hands on someone for burning a flag unless they're doing it on your private property. I don't care what it symbolizes to you. Why would you care what a stranger thinks about the flag or your country anyway? It doesn't affect you. If I saw someone burning a flag I'd just think to myself what a fruit loop and depending where it was maybe call the cops. Not try to teach them a lesson and threaten to slap them in the face. You're just as much of an ignorant attention seeking bitch as that 16 year old girl IMO.

There are plenty of people doing things that I think is retarded, like the pro-life fuck nuts that stand on the side of the road holding up signs of dead fetuses. I'm not going to get out of my car and punch them in the face though.

I wouldn't stop someone from burning the flag any more than I would pull someone out of the way of a semi bearing down on them while they played in traffic. I'm not risking myself for any stupid fuck.

What are US military personnel generally proclaimed to be officially fighting for and what does the flag represent? Freedom, liberty, justice for all.

Those are significant principles/rights. I respect and am grateful to US servicemen and women for their efforts to preserve them for this country and its citizens. Those citizens include attention-seeking dipshits, disgruntled persons, ignorant kids, wanna-be rebels, and maybe even some activists who have valid protests and want to spread the message as widely as possible; therein choosing an inflaming tactic in order to ignite passion and garner media coverage (freedom of the press - another key to democracy).

I don't really see how anyone who feels so strongly about what the flag symbolizes could be compelled to beat the shit outta someone else for exorcising their rights to freedom of speech/expression - rights that are enveloped in what the flag symbolizes; seems contradictory to me.

Also, it's illegal to assault someone else for legally burning their own flag or illegally burning someone else's flag. And, the penalties for assault are likely to be harsher than the penalties for destruction of stolen property that has low monetary value.

IMO, addressing perceived disrespect with violence isn't a justified or smart move in any case (though gang members tend to swear by that strategy).

Six, don't worry.

You're not alone in your opinion on this one.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I didn't say I didn't agree with him. I do. I'm just not risking a manicure to fuck someone up.

Six seems quite able to articulate his position well enough.

I'm not worried and don't need back-up because several peoples' opinion in this debate differ from mine. Why do you presume that Six is worried? Meh, doesn't matter.

So, you believe that someone beating the shit outta someone else for burning a flag is admirable and/or smart?

How about you tell us YOUR wholehearted opinion, MS?

I kinda don't see MS even commenting if he were to see someone burning the flag.

Well thank Christ you have his back on this one, lord knows what he would do without it. The law doesn't wholeheartedly agree with him, however. You're not allowed to assault people for burning the flag and rightfully so.

I just think that for the people who have given their lives for this country and those that have served and were prepared to do so, the last thing they were thinking was: I sure am happy to be defending and fighting for the rights of those that hate our country and everything it stands for.

Let's face it, the flag represents our country. If you want to burn the flag you're saying you'd like the U.S. destroyed as well. At least to me that's the correlation.

Many people will take offense to burning the flag, and if someone were to get their ass beat for doing it, well, it'd put a smile on my face.

I don't have a problem with freedom of speech, but some forms of expression go too far.

Why do people burn the flag? Obviously it's a diss but what are they protesting? The war? I think I recall hearing that back in the day it was done to protest the draft but why in this day & age would anyone choose to burn the flag? Am I missing something?
