i spent many years on sheriff dept. in florida. whenever a hurricane was coming (i've been through a number of them) we were activated. it meant we could not go home, and we had to spend 2 or 3 days "sleeping" in the jail when we were off duty. it was impossible to sleep in the jail. steel doors banging, inmates acting up, around the clock activity.

so i would say i've gone without sleep for about 3 days at a time. it was brutal.
