An activist group has apologised for a campaign which called on singer Chris Brown to banned from Australia for beating his former girlfriend Rihanna.
Nearly 15,000 people signed a GetUp! petition calling for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to deny Brown a visa for his December tour.
But days after authorities announced plans to deny the R&B crooner a visa, the group distanced itself from their own campaign in a statement.
'We now understand the campaign also supported a racist narrative that sees men of colour unfairly targeted, and stereotyped as more violent than their white counterparts,' GetUp! said. 'We all should stand up to any man who commits violence against women, but Australia has a history of arbitrary executive decisions and disproportionate exclusion of non-white people at its borders and upon reflection our approach contributed to this.'
The backflip comes after criticism recent campaigns to block visas for artist Tyler the Creator and Chris Brown - but not white artists - were 'inconsistent at best, racist at worst'.

Yes but the Pope is not a woman domestic violence basher. We are on a bit of a national campaign against domestic violence in this country, and the government decided to make an example of him. If Mock doesn't want to follow suit, then it may be sending a message that domestic violence is acceptable. Nothing to do with race. Even after everything he has done and continues to do, he is not sorry, has no remorse and is as arrogant and dangerous as ever. He is a criminal.

Domestic violence is not racist, it is not called Chinese domestic violence or african american domestic violence. How stupid is that? I am not responsible for the words of others.

The Australian of the Year is a lady whose son was murdered last year by her ex husband. He had a history of domestic violence, there was never any talk about racism. Chris Brown was denied due to his OWN actions. He is high profile and if they are making an example I say "good". Bout time someone stood up for women and said "we are not going to take your crap, now bugger off".

Any other crims/rappers/high profile, white or black that want to come, they will be left embarrassed ashamed and called out for their actions. What he did was unacceptable, no matter what race he is. Not everything is race based, certainly never even thought of that.
