SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES
(10-10-2018, 09:40 PM)Rootilda Wrote: Heh.

Chief Justice John Roberts is referring complaints about statements made by new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to federal judges outside the Beltway.

I made sure to find a "news" source you freaks would respect.

The process for handling those complaints, pertaining to Kavanaugh's testimony (rather than conduct on the federal district bench), isn't very clear.

If I understand correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong)......the ethics complaints were filed with Merrick Garland's office because Kavanaugh worked for him before rising to the Supreme Court.  Garland recused himself from investigating for obvious reasons and forwarded the complaints to Kavanaugh's current superior, Chief Justice Roberts.  From there, Roberts passed them to unrelated federal district courts and its at their discretion whether to investigate or not.

By the way Rootilda, it's clear that you think for yourself and don't have your nose up my ass or anyone else's.  The same is true for Love Child.

Yes it was a mean thing to say. Continue patting your pets' heads, and don't mind me.

If HoTD doesn't agree with you politically you better humour her snowflake mentality or she will smear you for no good reason, like every other indoctrinated SJW. Liar and Slimeball.

In this I think it is cliche to say "Wait and see" but...

Hey I could be wrong but I think after the passage of time the feelings fade away and only hard facts are left.

So Fry Guy is from what, Australia? The UK? I noticed he called someone mate but since most of his posts are a drool puddle of right wing buzz words, I don't usually read them. Why is someone that doesn't even live here this obsessively consumed with USA politics? His stupid opinions carry even less weight.

Yes, I get what you are saying. In your mind only people from America have any right to a view about anything to do with America. The same way as only lawyers can have a opinion about law, police can only have an opinion about policing, only politicians can have an opinion about politics and only the President can have an opinion about leading his country.

Yes, I get what you are saying, it is just a little bit retarded. Try to follow your line of thinking a little bit further.

Myself? Well I think being any gender, race, skin colour, religion, nationality, age, sexual preference or occupation, does not diminish your worth of your opinion nor your right to it. Some on the Authoritarian Left do but those a little more moderate do not.

I agree that it's weird, I don't know about the politics of another country unless it's the vile things that Putin does and those of that ilk, however FG isn't the only non-American I've seen interested in our politics, most of those that I've met always seem to know a great deal about the United States. Aussie knows quite a bit, so do Crash & Mo and there are others.

...sometimes I'm tempted to say, 'shup and mind your own politics. Awink

Now I'm semi-inspired to start a thread tracking Putin's murders.

I really like reading and discussing/debating their international perspectives on the U.S. (and other countries).

They all incorporate experiences from their own countries and their travels when sharing their views about various goings-on in America ..............rather than insisting they know what  we REALLY think or really ought to think.

Well, actually, Aussie does sometimes tell me what I really ought to think if she has a strong emotional difference of opinion.  ')

I remember Crash explaining the Australian gun control process and suggesting "'Merica" might want to consider something similar to reduce mass shootings.  It was interesting and I thought he made good points.

But, man, did the guys in the GUNS thread come out guns ablazin' -- the sheer nerve of the 'Stralian weighing-in on our SECOND AMENDMENT!    79

I would like to "unpack" as the SJW's often say, that statement up there in bold. Shall I start another thread?

Here is what you do not understand. In the Western World there is essentially two major Western cultures that my country is influenced by. European (mainly English) and America. It is not to say that we do not have our own identity, we do BUT we are influenced. We get news, fashion, Hollywood movies, sitcoms and such, from these places. We do get some influences from Asia but our similarities are in these two Northern lands. Financially we are tied to these two places too.

Now, the last 8+ years have seen the rise of the Authoritarian Progressives and not JUST in America but in the Western Culture generally. Public policies, law, comics, movies, television, academia and politics. It was not just England. England was taking its queue from the dominant European Union leader Germany. Sweden, France, England, Netherlands, Brussels and Spain all took their queue from Merkel. The other countries in the E U towed the line even when they went to the wall financially and took more illegal immigrants than they could handle. Added terrorism? No problem, keep the Progressive status quo.

Then we look to America and we see Obama and the poisonous ideology supporting that. Selling off Uranium to Russia, bowing to Muslim Kings like a supplicant, and dropping billions to Iran. Clinton Foundation going crazy.

My country had effectively one ideology coming from all Western cultures to influence ours. No better way. As countries were marching off the cultural cliff we had no other influence.

Now there is an alternative. A better alternative. It it better for us. I wish we were not influenced at all and that our television shows were not trying to be more American than Americans. Our "The View" like shows are far more extreme than those hosts.

A bit of tempering when a Trump culture vs European Progressivism is HEAPS better than Progressive Europe and Progressive America culture.

It was smart of Chief Justice Roberts to address the lingering suspicion that the Supreme Court is being politicized and becoming partisan so quickly after Kavanaugh's confirmation, in my opinion.

For the good of the country for a least a generation, I hope Roberts' words hold true.

^ Chief Justice John Roberts told the audience at the University of Minnesota Law School yesterday that "the Supreme Court does not serve one party or one interest, we serve one nation."

"I will not criticize the political branches. We do that often enough in our opinions," he said, quickly adding he would speak about how "the judicial branch is, how it must be, very different. We do not speak for the people, but we speak for the Constitution."

Roberts' intent: to assure the audience, and the American people, that the court can set aside the fierce partisan fight over the court's composition with five conservative justices and four liberal justices.

"Our role is very clear: We are to interpret the Constitution and laws of the United States, and to ensure that the political branches act within them," he said. "That job obviously requires independence from the political branches. The story of the Supreme Court would be very different without that sort of independence."
