SUPREME COURT: JUSTICE SCALIA DEATH AND SCOTUS CHANGES
Of coarse all that would have happened if Feinstien had brought it out in a timely manner rather than wait to make it known at the last minute. Talk about a person shooting their own foot.   hah
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

It could have been completed in a few days and ahead of yesterday's testimony regardless Mags.

What in the hell is up with Lindsey Graham. Just what the hell. He sounds relieved and looks like a weight is off. Completely fuckin' bizarre given it appears the vote has been delayed so the FBI can investigate.

Something major is going down with Lindsey, that's for sure.  Lots of speculation as to why.

Trump authorized an FBI investigation?  I'm surprised, pleasantly so.

I'll read up on what went down.

Good for Senator Flake (Republican, AZ). He's on the Judiciary Committee.

He requested a one week delay to the confirmation vote so that the FBI can investigate the specific allegation. He said he had conferred with Democrat senators and also believes he has the support of a couple of his Republican colleagues.

Trump said he'll leave it up to the Senate. However, the FBI will need Trump's authorization to proceed.

I just watched a clip of Flake's surprise request for FBI investigation.  Lindsey looked shell-shocked to me.

Lindsey had his day in the sun yesterday with his histrionic defense of Kavanaugh and got a hero's applause from his Republican colleagues last night................only to wake up and find out the tide has turned, yet again.

If I recall correctly, it wasn't just Kavanaugh who touted his ABA recommendation yesterday.  Lindsey (a lawyer himself) did as well, and referred to the ABA as the "The Gold Standard".

Anyway, I'm really glad the president of the American Bar Association publicly called for an FBI background investigation into Dr. Ford's allegations last night.  Whether it ultimately helps or hurts Kavanaugh, it's the non-partisan right thing to do.

“The basic principles that underscore the Senate’s constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI,” ABA President Robert Carlson wrote in a letter to Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the committee’s top Democrat.  Carlson indicated that the confirmation was too important to rush.

Turns out, the ABA has had concerns about Kavanaugh in regards to previous nominations as well (relating to bias).

I didn't see that particular shot of him, I saw him out in the hallway being interviewed after the fact. He appeared almost giddy. I was dumbfounded by his attitude, it was the complete opposite of his manner yesterday. It was just so odd, remarkable actually.

Maybe Trump whispered in his ear that he was impressed with his performance and he's the first choice to replace Sessions.

I took it as a "You've got to be kidding me" laugh. Or laughing and saying in his head, "None of this is going to matter, a week won't matter because Kavanaugh will still be supreme court judge". I took it is a maniacal laugh.

This cartoon perfectly captures my thoughts when President Trump sent out a tweet praising Judge Kavanaugh's performance yesterday.

So, now that he has received a request directly  from the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman and the senate does not have the votes to confirm Kavanaugh, President Trump has ordered the standard supplemental FBI background investigation undertaken in such cases.

The investigation is limited to "current and credible allegations".  I'm not clear yet on whether that means it's limited to the Ford allegation, or if it also includes the other accusers' allegations +  Kavanaugh supporters' recent statements that he misrepresented the depths of his drinking + allegations of perjury under oath + suspicions of financial impropriety...

President Trump also said today that he found Dr. Ford 'very credible' and he characterized Judge Kavanaugh as 'very compelling'.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/natio...story.html

I guess you could call a tantrum compelling. It's an infantile tactic which most people have out-grow by their teens. Maybe he liked that period of his life so much he is emotionally stuck there.

I had some reservation about indicting Kavanaugh, and was giving him the benefits of doubt. Not anymore. As Ford's testimony is further explored it is revealing her steadfastly adhering to truth and honestly admitting to those parts she cannot remember. As the FBI investigates this I am convinced the missing pieces will reveal themselves and will fall into place. This man will have the reckoning he deserves.

This reminds me of the Duke Lacrosse team and how the media acted along with many people that had no clue what they were talking about.

I remember that. The over-stepping and over-zealous prosecutor was later reprimanded for his outrageous conduct.

That's because you project upon others what you want to see Mags. You're tunnel visioned.

I'm working from home now and tuned into MSNBC. Not one person on the liberal station has gotten anywhere near declaring Kavanaugh guilty of sexual assault; not one person in two hours of coverage and about a dozen commentators.

Instead, they're echoing what some of us here expressed yesterday, essentially that Kavanaugh spewed a highly partisan and entitled rant and made for a terrible witness because he angrily tried to turn the tables on the inquiring senators instead of just answering the questions (especially in regards to drinking).

That's the opposite of the judicious temperament and politically neutral position required for a Supreme Court Justice.

Also, Kavanaugh's claims in regards to the meanings of his yearbook entries, along with his oft-repeated "I like beer" declarations, were (disturbingly) hilarious and did not go unnoticed. Those are objective reality-based observations.

So, we'll see what the FBI investigation uncovers. Maybe it will include facts and sworn statements that totally support (or don't refute) Kavanaugh's claims regarding the sexual assault allegations and whatever else is covered in the limited-scope investigation.

Then, those of you who for some reason find Brett Kavanaugh to be a good choice for the Supreme Court can celebrate his confirmation (unless Trump dumps him first).

Yes, I am not surprised by this at all. It is thin end of the wedge type stuff and only the very very stupid fall for it.

Here is the set up. Make untrue accusations one after another about what an immoral and horrible person some one is. Find fault with their every action and smear every aspect of their life and go after their children and spouse.

Then when they react with anger or tears, call them bullies, unhinged or credible tears or say they are having a tantrum.

If ANYONE (Yes that ABSOLUTELY includes members here) pushes this "tantrum" narrative...you are Arseholes. No if or buts.

No, there is actually no justification why this is okay.

To put this in context for those amoung you that cant do a imagining if it were a male relative of yours falsely accused and in a way that is unprovable either way, or who by virtue of their gender are not having to really contemplate a realistic situation where you could get accused of being a rapist, I will ask you to consider what you would do if someone you babysat for as a child suddenly "came out" to someone that you used to fiddle with them. You know this is not true but how do you counter? Soon all types of people are getting involved and through social media it spreads as to what a monster you were. The story is completely untrue and unprovable but people side with this young lady who frames you as some closeted lecherous lesbianic incestuous monster. Her story is mostly consistent but the changes and alterations seem of no importance. She is the victim and she must be believed. But aren't you the victim? Hell she may have been interfered with but not by you?
You get angry and emotional. People remark that you are playing the victim to distract from the monster you are.

Now. Breath in this example. This could be you. I could be accused of terrible stuff from a vindictive ex wife or ex girlfriend or a woman I have spurned or perhaps offended. Kavenaugh is acting with a damn sight more reservation than most so don't for a moment say he is tantruming

Probably also good not to project your own tunnel-vision

Pffft.

What I witnessed from Judge Kavanaugh in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee made it very clear to me that he absolutely lacks the temperament and mindset of someone qualified to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.

That's my judgment, regardless as to whether Kavanaugh feels wrongly accused. And regardless as to the validity of the sexual assault allegations. And regardless of what Biggie and FryGuy at Mock think about my opinion (or my tits).

Unlike you, I don't presume/pretend to know whether Kavanaugh is guilty or innocent in regards to the sexual assault allegations. And, I don't believe those are the only two options, in any case.

While I do understand Judge Kavanaugh being pissed, impassioned, and forceful in defending himself if he feels wrongly accused, Kavanaugh went way outside the bounds of rational behavior and demeanor in both his scorched-earth opening statement and his responses to senators' questions, in my opinion.

Instead, he went on a screaming, tear-filled, sniffling, entitled rant -- complete with partisan conspiracy theories and right-wing rhetoric.  I've never seen any high profile public figure jump the shark to that extent, even when facing worse allegations and tougher grilling.
