THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY
The dems seem to want open borders AND daca is what I see
Reply
There is no talk of open borders in the bi-partisan legislation proposal.

The Dreamers have already gone through the official channels and approvals to get temporary legal status -- that's why they're in DACA status. The issue at hand with DACA is making the legal status permanent for those who meet the criteria and making a path to citizenship available after a few years. That applies to those who are already here only. It's not an invitation for more to enter or stay illegally.

There's also severe limitations to chain migration in the proposal, along with an end to the visa lottery.

In addition there is increased funding for border security and fencing (over $2 billion) which is what both parties and immigration officials support rather than a logistically, geographically and cost prohibitive giant wall from sea to shining to sea.

Lots of misconceptions in here.

The misconception is thinking we won't keep doing it over and over again for the new people.

That's not a misconception Biggie. It's an opinion about what will happen in the future, presumably based on what's happened in the past.

I specifically pointed out the misconceptions expressed here in my post.

You may think future immigration reform measures won't work, and you may end up being right. It depends on the final legislation and enforcement of the laws thereafter.

I don't understand the vote. They need 60 votes to pass the legislation and that would take I think 6 Democrat votes so if all the Republicans voted yes and those 6 Dems voted no the government would not stay open. So this is the Republicans fault for some bizarro world reason.

The Government is more shutdown now Friday night and throughout the weekend with 90% now home eating dinner than what will still be working Monday morning with a shutdown, so maybe 20% will stay home. Medicaid will be funded, people will still get money withheld from their paychecks and even National parks will be open with reserve money used unlike what the Obama administration did by politically shutting the parks down and not letting them stay open with reserve money that is in their budget. Remember 2013 when that happened?

You will not see such shenanigans with this administration. When Monday comes it will be fine. But we may see plenty of goofy crap on Tuesday and Wednesday, just watch CNN.

You've convinced me that you sincerely can't understand Maggot. Not because you're a dullard, I still don't think that's the case. But instead because you're clearly too partisan biased and singularly focused on cheerleading for the president to objectively process simple math and basic concepts.

I'm not gonna explain the vote and the fact that McConnell doesn't even have unanimous Republican support in the Senate at present. You're not open to facts; it is what it is.

I'll just say that you're woefully in the dark if you believe what you're trying to peddle; that this potential shutdown lies solely at the feet and Democrats and that both parties don't bear responsibility for this potential shutdown (neither being more focused on a reasonable compromise for Americans rather than a win for their side.)

Anyway, I suspect there will be yet another short-term CR so congresspersons can go back and try to get something done without a government shutdown. If that's what happens, it will be the fifth kicking of that can in the one year of the new administration.

At least 4 Republicans have voted 'no' on the Republican CR proposal so far.

The Republican leaders did, however, manage to get at least 5 congressional Dems to vote for a CR to keep the government running.

So, though it's another cute exercise in branding, it's gonna be very hard for Republicans to convince unbiased Americans that this is a "Schumer Shutdown".

Now we see if the Congress is willing to get together again quickly to consider another CR proposal (basically an extension to the government funding/spending deadline) in order to halt the shutdown, or we instead face a longer term government shutdown.

This is bad for Trump and McConnell. Trump said government shutdowns are the fault of the President back in 2013. I have a feeling he'll flip-flop on that proclamation now that he's the President residing over a shutdown where his party majority-rules both branches of congress.

I sure hope so. I don't want that dumb fuck impeached. I wanna sit here and watch the misery continue.

Republicans don't know how to govern. They are the party of no and that's all they know. There was a bipartisan bill to keep the government open with the support to pass and GOP leadership refused to bring it to the floor. That's why this is a GOP shutdown. They own it.

No offense, doll, but I pretty much don't give a shit about whether or not parks are remaining open when families will be going without a paycheck.

Either the DACA kids become citizens through the proper channels with time running out and border security gets beefed up or Trump caves in to Democrat wishes is up in the air, I don't see him caving but he has in the past, not sure what will happen but a government shutdown is not the end of the world. The blame game goes on and on and all of them can only do what will get them elected again. Its a great show as was the previous administration.

Just in case HOTD needed my middle road view of things, and not a left or right leaning slant on the situation.

Who will be going without a paycheck? Hopefully every Representative and Senator. I couldn't care less about that either.

Politicians are exempt. Shame.

Federal employees deemed “essential” (or “excepted”) will still have to report to work, while the rest will be furloughed. No one gets paid until Congress passes a funding bill, and whether furloughed employees get paid is up to the government.

None of the parks will be closing anyway, according to the Trump administration. National parks and monuments won't be affected by this shutdown.

I didn't need anything from you Mags.

But, it is kinda nice to see you without a bat clutched in your left fist, a pom pom in your right, and an unyielding desire to use them both simultaneously............without ever switching hands or putting them down long enough to really understand what you're striking out at and what you're cheering about.

But you do look good jumping up and down in the helmet and short skirt. ')
