I had been following this but had to step away. It's just not right that this POS gets weeks to convince people that he ought to be allowed to live when he gave the Petit women mere hours - and obviously was unsympathetic to their pleas. My blood boils thinking about it.

So can I ask regarding this ghastly case whether this guy the younger one, is likely to get the death penalty? I was just searching in this thread to recall as to whether he violated that little girl or not. I am not clear on what I read as to whether there was any trauma in that region as to whether she was violated. I suppose the whole point is, they all lost their lives and they were taking photos and weird stuff. So unbelievably evil.

yes that's what I thought, I reread that post, and thought it could have been 'outside' but the sick fucker couldn't help himself could he? You don't want to believe such sick shit. But it's true it really happened.

Years ago I used to do occasional presentations on STDs @ this psychological (wished mock had spell check) assessment place for adolescents (sp?)...anyway, all foster kids went there with a history of serious behaviors... most the nurse told me would never go into foster care because of such serious issues. this nurse and i developed a friendship and while watching the beginning video i always brought, she'd whisper to me as we sat in the back of the classroom. "see that little boy he/she did blah blah blah'...i was horrified..I 'd look up and see a darling little 9 yr old girl w/huge brown eyes who was a fire starter - her stepfather sexually abused her for years, a boy who looked to be no more than 10, she said raped his little sister who was 2 - seman (sp?) found in vagina, one little girl kept killing animals for no apparent reason - they never could figure out why, her parents seemed/appeared caring/normal, another little girl's arms were bandaged from her cutting and she was only 11, ...
no matter what we do as a society to help them/intervene/hospitalize, the numbers are only increasing. The kicker is almost every time I would go there would be at least 1 or 2 pregnant chicks in there too.

The day before Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky committed the deadly Cheshire home invasion, the parolees broke into two other area homes in the middle of the night to steal as the residents slept.
In a chilling audiotaped confession played for jurors in court Tuesday, Komisarjevsky described how in one home he and Hayes were "goofing around" with a knife Hayes took from a kitchen butcher block.
Prosecutors brought Cheshire Police Det. Joseph Vitello back to the witness stand Tuesday as their first rebuttal witness, following the defense attorneys' announcement that they were finished presenting mitigating evidence. The penalty phase was in its 20th day of testimony. Early Tuesday afternoon, the prosecution also rested its case. Superior Court Judge Jon C. Blue said closing arguments — two hours for each side — likely would be made on Friday.

Closing statements today in penalty phase. Each side given two hours. I thought the prosecution did a great job of showing JK & SH expected a confrontation with family based on what they brought with them, JK as ringleader and active participant rather than mere accessory to Hayes, and that JK had many opportunities to turn the situation around and save the family, the depraved nature of his crimes (raping Michaela), and talking about the sheer terror the girls must have experienced as gasoline was being poured over them.
Defense is going through JK's life from the time of his adoption (I bet the jury is sick of this) and portraying JK as a damaged individual. Defense isn't finished - lunch break.
Jury will begin penalty deliberations Monday.

Jury has chosen same woman to be foreman (foreperson?) as during criminal phase. The four alternate jury members have been excused, though the judge warned them that's there's a possibility they will be called back. Court is adjourned until 2:45 so the judge can go over the evidence that will be given the jury. I'm not sure what else needs to be done when the jury is called back - if not much, maybe deliberations will start today.

Jurors began deliberating the fate of Cheshire home invasion killer Joshua Komisarjevsky Monday afternoon at about 3:06.
The same jury of seven women and five men found Komisarjevsky guilty Oct. 13 of murdering Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley and Michaela, inside their Cheshire home.
Six of the 17 charges Komisarjevsky, 31, was convicted of are punishable by death, although the jury could instead sentence him to life in prison without parole.
Superior Court Judge Jon C. Blue began charging the jury and going over the verdict forms at 10:20 a.m. Monday morning and finished his instructions to the jury shortly after noon.
"Once you begin deliberations, the timeclock is in your hands," Blue told the jurors, adding that the court would still take the regularly scheduled court breaks and would end each day at 5 p.m.

Court dismissed for the day. Jury has deliberated about 7 hrs.
Seems like an easy decision for me. If you're going to have the death penalty, how depraved would a crime have to be for it to be applied?

being friday, they will probably come in today. but clearly THIS jury is taking their work and instructions seriously and going through every bit of evidence. or someone could be hanging them up.

Though I would agree that they must take their job seriously, I'm truly hoping that Friday brings some kind of vindication to Dr. Petit and his family. This should be a slam dunk!

It took the Steven Hayes jury a long time in the penalty deliberation - about 17 hrs. This jury reached that point yesterday. If this jury doesn't find for the death penalty, I hope each jury member has the courage to look Dr. Petit in the eyes.
