Misc. cases I
hahaha flushed out by a combine! hah

Illinois daily-journal
While other farmers harvested corn and soybeans Wednesday, Mark Tanner, of Tanner Farms in Kankakee, was using his combine to farm for a fugitive hiding in a Kankakee cornfield.

Police had been searching for a man, who was hiding somewhere in the cornfield. Police had stopped a car and when it pulled over, the man leaped out and ran.

As the combine ate away at his refuge among the cornstalks, Daniel Thomas, 19, of 244 S. Entrance Ave., Kankakee, made the choice to come out, hands up, directly in front of the sheriff's office at 3000 S. Justice Way.

"It was nice of him to run toward the jail. Usually, people run from the jail," said Ken McCabe, chief deputy for the Kankakee County sheriff's police.

The search for Thomas began four hours earlier, when the car he was riding in was pulled over by the sheriff's police near Taco Bell on Riverstone Parkway at 9:16 a.m.

Thomas ran across Interstate 57 and into the cornfield that is part of Tanner Farms near Interstate 57, Exit 308. More officers were called and the police stood guard in a perimeter around the field.

Officers also were positioned on the roof of the sheriff's office and nearby Love's Travel Stop & Country Store. A state police canine unit came in at about 9:45 a.m., and a local pilot volunteered to fly a plane with a police officer. When the aerial view proved ineffective, police brought in a ladder truck from the Kankakee Fire Department.

Still, Thomas stayed in the cornfield. That's when the police came up with a new strategy.

"Let's find out who the farmer is and see if he's ready to harvest his field," McCabe said.

Enter Tanner, who had actually been thinking about harvesting the field Wednesday. Police called, asked for his help, he drove his combine over and got to work. But not before being fitted with a bulletproof vest.

Assisted by two armed police, Tanner harvested for about 90 minutes before Thomas finally ran out of the field and surrendered.

"It definitely was a factor in flushing him out," McCabe said about the combine.

Now Thomas is facing a number of charges. In addition to the parole violation — details of which were not known as of press time — was also charged with resisting a peace officer, fleeing and attempting to elude police, McCabe said.

For Tanner, it was an eventful day.

"That did add a little excitement to the harvest," said Tanner, who spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the field.

Tanner's wife, Londa, said she's breathing much easier now that Thomas has been caught.

Said Londa: "To see your husband sitting in the combine with a bulletproof vest on, with a police officer with a gun on the outside, it's a little unnerving."

NYC
Cops have arrested three teenagers in connection with the shooting that killed a 34-year-old hero Brooklyn mom outside a school last week, police announced today.

Andrew Lopez, 18, was arrested after allegedly shooting a gun from the roof at a crowd this past Friday that included parents and children outside a school in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

NBCNewYork.com reported that Lopez was arrested after cops received a tip.

The bullet struck Zurana Horton, a pregnant mother of 12, who later died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Horton was hailed a hero after she grabbed her child and several others, shielding them from the barrage of gunfire.

Lopez told detectives the shooting was in retaliation for a dispute his brother had with someone else, WABC-TV reported.

A 31-year-old woman was hit in an arm and the chest and was hospitalized as a result of the shooting.

An 11-year-old girl, a sixth-grader at the school, was also injured with a graze wound on her cheek.

The accused shooter is affiliated with a local street gang known as "8 Block," according to police. The group is embroiled in a turf battle with the Young Goons gang from the nearby Howard Houses.

i suppose most are aware that Dr. Phil is having Rebecca Zahau's family on in November and her body is being exhumed
but not at expense of Dr. Phil. Not sure who is footing bill. i do realize that November is a sweeps month. I don't think
most agree. but think something if off in this entire case. A child was allowed to run and grab a chandlier which crashed
to floor spraying glass onto Rebecca's sister (she was apparently treated for injuries also). i read this some where. Think
it was on the Hinkey website. Wouldn't most children know this was a no-no and could kill them? I usually accept what
is reported, i.e, accident, suicide and case closed. Something bothering me about all of this!

dr. phony's program IS paying for it, and she has already been exhumed.

There is new info on Rebecca Zahau "suicide" posted today. No one else seems to care, but case still bothers me.
link is: www.thehinkymeter.com
Also case will be featured on Dr. Phil show on 14 and 15 Nov (was confusion about this) but this is latest and will
be featured in two parts now. Now, i know how some of you feel about Dr. Phil, but i think it will be interesting.

killed his girlfriend and admits to owning one of the guns owned in the shootings of the two young girls. The town
is named Weleetka OK~~so just scroll until you see town's name. Hope this is finally solved!

I've been following this case again for the last month or so. The guy is a real creep. He has a tattoo that would seem to indicate his kills. The gun was sold at a gun show last March I think. There's a reward out for the gun. I'll see if I can find the link to his tattoos - it's on his own art page.

I can't find the tattoo picture. Maybe he took it down. I just got it from someone who saved a copy. I'm not sure I can legally post it though????

It's four playing cards fanned out. The top card has the ace of spades with a skull in it. Each card has a different weapon in the corner. The original tattoo had three cards. There's speculation that each card represents a different kill. After Ashley (his girlfriend) was killed, a fourth card appeared with a knife in the corner.

I'm curious, how does this case bother you? That she was murdered and didn't commit suicide or that she had a hand in the death of the little boy?

I happen to believe both of those things. I believe her 'suicide' was staged and I do believe she participated in the little boy's death.

Hope the truth becomes clearer, for both of their sakes'.

Thanks Kip! He is very creepy~

Midwest, I too, think Rebecca was murdered, but why "stage" it as a homicide? Also Dina (her boyfriend's ex) had a twin
sister named Nina. It was reported that she was seen at the mansion at 10:00 P.M. evening of Rebecca's demise.
Clumps of hair (hinkymeter) were found and when women fight, they pull each other's hair.
I don't think Rebecca willfully had anything to do with Max's death, but that she was distracted e.g., taking bubble bath, etc. The entire circumstance of Max's death is so vague. I would like to know height of railing and whether he
was running, how he landed on chandelier. Some of these details were reported in the news, but nothing verified by LE.
Two deaths at the same home within a week and yet, little is known about details. In some of these news reports, her
family said she was thinkiing about leaving the relationship. There just seems to be a lot of unknowns.

It was staged as a suicide, I believe. That's the coroner's official cause of death.

Midwest, yes I know it was official cause of death and that is why I have a problem with it. If a woman if going to off herself, she visualizes what she will be wearing and certainly doesn't do it in the nude. I would like to know whereabous of all persons involved in this, statements from Rebecca's sister as to Max's accident. She apparently had injuries from flying glass. I would like to see record of all phone calls made, i.e., times, etc. What was Nina doing there that night?
In any case, it has appearance of not telling what you know. It seems as though, by calling the death a suicide,
it makes it O.K. not to reveal circumstances of Max's death. In otherwords, Rebecca took her own life because of the
guilt she felt over Max's death, case closed. I don't buy it!

this is San Diego Sheriff's illustration of how Max fell to his death. which i view as a credible freak accident.

LC, thanks for the diagram.

I really know very little about this case.

According to the diagram, then, he would've been running toward the stairs? It also appears that he would've been moving at a pretty good clip to get to the other side of the stair case after falling.

Is it safe to assume he was running FROM somebody? I honestly don't know the circumstances of his death. I believe I read that his step-mom was with him at the time.

Can you give me any help or post any links?

kids that age run all over the place. i understood she was in the bath at the time. i could be mistaken. there are many places to search for for timelines/details, i would start with LA Times for credible reporting.
not the 'hinkymeter' or dr. phool.

You know, I've got 3 kids, and a staircase similar to that one. I've never seen my 3 or 4 year old sprinting toward the stairs like that.

How about this scenario?

What if she WAS taking a bath, and the boy decided to peek in on her? I mean, she's not his biological mom, and she's probably pretty. He wants a look?

She catches him, and he turns to run down the stairs, and voila! you have the 'credible' accident.

I don't know just a wild thought.

But, then, she in turn knowing that she had 'caused' his accidental death, DOES in fact feel guilty/horrible and decided to commit suicide??
