I think its the sticky surface that is important. Thats the side retaining everything.
Looks to me like the sticky side mashing to the slick side is going to cause any fingerprint to become compromised and probably not able to be recovered.

I think "I" meant the investigator. Like if the investigation came up with a hit on DNA the family may not be told. Only if an arrest was imminent.
