Closing arguments came Thursday in Williams' trial. The jury deliberated until 9 p.m. Thursday evening and will return Friday morning. The jurors are being sequestered and are unaware that Pettaway was acquitted. Williams faces the death penalty if convicted.

And what does it mean? I thought one of the news articles stated that he could not be tried again, but then I thought I saw it posted that if new evidence comes to light that he could be. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Acquitted! Cannot be tried again. The State can Appeal the Judges decision.

fasho foo

Anyone know the likelihood of appeal? Is that the kind of thing that is almost always done by default in this type if situation?

The likelihood of a Judge granting a rule 29 Motion for Aquittal is rare. the Appeal has to based on stuff already on the record. So, the best shot that the State has is rulings that Judge Bates made to exclude evidence. I'm sure that Judge Bates is aware of this fact.

My understanding is that the 'witness' stated that Williams said
he was 'there' - not that he did it.

Can anyone tel me otherwise?

per Mustang, jury is sequestered for the night. Jury will resume at 9:am tomorrow . When a verdict is reached they have 15 min. to get there. He as made some arrangements to keep everybody close to the court house and enjoy breakfast. Jury was asking good questions and going over the evidence. Mustang, texted a couple lawyer friends and they said taking longer to make a decision is promising. Bad thing is that I have commitment at 11:30 and might have to leave and not know the outcome. My family is on me all the time to have a cell!

if he was there, and it was a joint venture, he is guilty of felony murder. even if he did nothing but stand watch.

What are the odds that the authorities just rolled the dice in a power play (since they had so little to go on
other than circumstantial evidence) and went ahead with what they had, thinking someone would roll over on someone
or other evidence would come about due to interrogations, search warrants, jailhouse snitches and phone calls,
dna testing etc...but they came up empty handed when it came to the actual case results? Perhaps too confident
that any of the above listed would lead to something more?

Yes, I think the Prosecution was going with what they had hoping that a witness, or interrogations etc., would add more certainty to the monsters being their that night.

Pettaway was aquitted based on iinsufficent evidence. The only hope the State has is to Appeal based on the Judges ruling to exclude evidence.

I think restriction of telephones, t.v., & any other form of social media is up to the Judge presiding over the case.

Does Williams know yet what happened to Pettaway? I bet he's sweating to-night! and maybe he'll sweat some more to-morrow one never knows! Maybe he's fearful, maybe he's thinking damn this is torture. What goes around comes around!

Joint venture? So the State didn't go with conspiracy because the murders were not planned? You think, maybe?

....don't think they should have brought this to trial -- cameo's cell phone records/tower information was exculpatory -- shows he wasn't in that area during the time of the murders.

His "phone" wasn't in the area...

He will need to leave Toledo, or be looking over his shoulder the rest of his life...

ive been told there is a bit of unrest in the county jail over the acquittal but cant substantiate it. pettaway's case was much weaker especially after a jailhouse informant caught prosecutors by surprise by totaly changing his story. meeting with prosecutors following acquittal and they expressed optimism in the williams trial because of the different evddence presented. the 4th jail phone call sinks him. we'll see. prosecutors are also confident the truth will be known. someday. the unknowns in this case are living a criminal life. it's a matter of time before they're arrested for a felony, which prompts a DNA sample that will be run through the system and link them to this crime. might be next week...might ten years, but it will happen.

WTOL 11PM NEWS -----

Mother of Johnny Clark reacts to today's verdict.

Maytee still visits the grave of her son every day and she
is lashing out at Judge Bates. "Sickening, total soul, heart-
........(missed this)."
She claims there was DNA evidence that proves he did it.
Bates failed.
