Cracker intervention
#41

I didn't know there was a book. I'd be more apt to read that than attempt to sit through a film.

Yes Duchess, the movie is based on the book. It's a long book but an awsome read. I highly recommend it.

Not yet. I want to see that and Red Tails but I am not about to see them in a theater full of folks down here. They all look at you like you own slaves. I will have to wait for the electronic release.

I feel badly if an adult of any color is working the drive through so I'm sure the movie/book is disturbing.

I started reading the book but I gave up after about 3 pages. Not surprisingly the main character speaks like a southern black person in whatever old time period it was set. Anyway, reading the dialogue gave me a headache--usually I prefer books but in this case, I'm skipping it for the movie (if LC gives it the thumbs up).

disney wouldn't release that movie for many years. i bought a pirated version before they finally did allow us to own it. you couldn't even buy a Song of the South poster at one time.
i didn't see it as racist as a little girl, and my kids didn't either. just charming stories from Uncle Remus.

Yes. White people take care of their things.

i finally watched "The Help" Cracker. it was OK. not as powerful as i thought it had the potential to be.
it was mildly interesting is about the extent of it as far as i'm concerned.
it sure wasn't "Fried Green Tomatoes".

but don't let me discourage you from seeing it. we all may have different opinions.
it wasn't awful, simply a bit of a bore.

The book has to be better. I'm downloading it on my Nook to read at the beach on vacation.
I'm not going to watch the movie until I read the book.

The book is much better. It goes into more detail about the relationships between the maids and the white people and the maids relationships with each other. I love the book and the movie.

one of the things i like about Cracker is that nomatter what is dished out, she can take it. i admire that. no whining, no excuses. she doesn't back off and cry. she doesn't offer up excuses. she just spits it out and damn the torpedoes. i respect that she is not worried about being liked, doesn't seek approval.
i may not always agree with her, but i respect her.
and she also makes me laugh sometimes.

Thanks, LC. I really don't care if people "get" me. Some shit needs to be said.

I'd rather have an exchange with Cracker about something on which we disagree than to have an exchange with most others about something on which we agree. Possibilities for new considerations and view points abound in the former scenario, and it's happened for me on more than one occasion. FTR...
