My dad shot himself with a sawed off shotgun.... no smell & no mess left behind. Unbelievable really but completely true.

Damn.

twice I not only was on scene with the suicide, but I also ended up with the floorcovering contracts to replace the carpets in the houses.

even after cleaning, painting and new carpet the house still had the smell.

what I smell is a conflict of interest...

I'm sure there are messy/smelly suicides. I was "fortunate" in that I didn't have to deal with that, although I fully expected to, considering there was a shotgun involved.

I would also like to add that I understand that the popular consensus is that suicides are committed by the weak & selfish, however, my dad had a massive stroke at 53 years old & took his life one year later. He was every bit as well spoken & intelligent as the majority of people that I see post here. No longer being able to speak , read, write, play musical instruments & create art left him completely broken & it was torture to watch this extremely intelligent man reduced to the mentality of a 3 year old child. I do not & have never considered my dad weak or selfish. I (the selfish ME) miss my dad terribly & miss all that was taken from us but I'm understanding & happy that my dad no longer suffers. Imagine what you would do if tomorrow you woke up like this......... ( my dad had Wernicke's aphasia )

I don't think everyone who ends their own life is weak; we each have to decide what we can tolerate (while hopefully considering the impact of our decisions on our loved ones). That said, I recently had a friend who passed away from ALS and I find that to be an even more devastating disease. His brain, eyes and ears were intact while he lost control of all his other bodily functions.

I know nothing about that disease but watching the video, that woman didn't seem to have the mentality of a 3 year old. More, it was like she couldn't form the right words but it seemed like in her head, she knew what she OUGHT to be saying...she just couldn't do it.

Sorry about your dad.

Thanks. I only liken my dad to a 3 year old because my daughter was 3 at the time & they seemed to be at the same level mentally. My dad did speak in the same way that the lady did in the video did, BUT he also had temper tantrums like my 3 year old & they both did things... like fight over candy & snacks, only my dad was much harder to handle because of his size. Taking them both to the store was an experience. As it was explained to me, he knew what was going on & he could understand what people were saying to him, but he couldn't communicate effectively & he was going to have some emotional/behavioural issues. Which he did. It was very sad to watch what happened to him overnight. Also, I'm sorry about your friend too
