I-dee-ho. And I've noted that multiple pizza joints (take out only) and some sammich shops advertise in their windows that they "now accept EBT cards".

As a matter of fact, a couple of months ago my wife came home from the pizza joint and was quite offended that the cashier informed her that "they accept EBT cards".

She was like..."WTF, do I look destitute or something?" (Yeah, sometimes she gets upset over trivial crap).

Bullshit. If you're healthy and willing to work then you don't need welfare to make it, that's a fact. I know because I did it and so do plenty of other people that aren't fucking losers.

Healthy people who work hard and pay their bills don't end up on the street. If you lose your job then you better go out and find another one or two. The shitty economy is an excuse, there are plenty of jobs. I could go out and get one today if I needed to.

I don't think it is n(ai)ve so much as it is just intentional ignorance. Times have changed. Rec(ei)ving benefits is not all that it used to be, not by a long shot.

In California, a single mom with one child gets about $300/mo cash and $380/mo food. And if you get pregnant and have another kid, then you suck because nothing changes. Your cash aid does not increase with the size of the family. No way can any one in California survive for long on welfare. That is a thing of the past.

But whatever, if it makes one feel superior to put down the less fortunate, then it ain't no skin off of my back.

Don't assume it's ignorance that makes people angry when children are brought into the world in families that cannot/will not support them. That causes kids to be born into environments that are not food secure. Why have a kid if you can't feed them and provide for them? That is the confusing part for me. I AM ignorant as to why anybody with any sense would do that. How unfair is that to a child?

She was actually pretty pissed...or maybe it was just embarrassing. I tried to explain to her that the cashier was probably just doing what he/she was told. But she would have none of it.

I said before, I have sympathy for some people that need assistance (and I don't mind my tax dollars helping to support that) but I have a big problem with the number of people who abuse the system.

If the total population on welfare/benefits (not counting elderly and truly disabled people, drug addicts and drunks can fuck off) were only around 10%, 20% tops, I don't think anybody would bitch too much. It's the lifers and generational people, and those who use the system as their employment, that piss the rest of us off.

Right now more people are on benefits than those who are paying into the system. It is designed to fail. I want MY family to benefit from my hard work, not the lazy family down the street.
