Debt ceiling: More Democrats threaten to vote against raising borrowing
The tension is the latest illustration of how the tea-party-infused GOP is driving the debate in Washington over federal spending. And it shows how the debt issue is testing the Obama administration’s clout as Democrats, particularly those from politically competitive states, resist White House arguments against setting conditions on legislation to raise the debt ceiling.

More Democrats defiant on debt ceiling
.The push-back has come in recent days from Sens. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a freshman who is running for reelection next year. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) told constituents during the Easter recess that he would not vote to lift the debt limit without a “real and meaningful commitment to debt reduction.

Asshat. I'm not immune to the in-party fighting on both sides. Pelosi is ready to chew off Obama's balls because he's saying he would be willing to consider some cuts to medi-care/social security.

Both parties are in-fighting to the extreme and chewing off their own legs.

I think what Democrats are fighting against (now) is McConnell's plan which basically throws responsibility on to Obama and excuses them from reaching any type of compromise. It's the "we'll throw our hands up and just take our bat and BALLS and go home" and deal with it later plan (and blame everything on Obama).

My 12 y/o daughter could figure that out.

You don't have to watch this unless you need the proof, but it definitely reinforces a stereotype as SJL talks on her cell phone at her own Town Hall Meeting on healthcare while she ignores the cancer survivor asking her the question.

That is truely fucked up. You can hate his policies and actions but you basically just said people (ignorant assholes like you) wouldn't vote for another black (okay, half-black person) because (in your opinion) the first half black president fucked up.

Wow. Do you judge all women candidates by Sarah Palin?

That is FUCKED. UP.

Do you judge all white males by the actions of George Bush?

Do you think people should influence their kids politically? I at least waited until high school.

Where do you think the blame lies? You are OK with blaming Bush for everything under the sun, but get offended when Obama takes any blame?

You talk out of both sides of your mouth. You, and Obama, are NOT centrists.

Are you shitting me that giving Obama the power to raise the ceiling is "blaming" him and forcing responsibility on him? He's the fucking president. Want me to take over? Let me know. Because then I can say all the men are hating on a woman president...

and yet you stooped to kiss the ass of the anointed one and only mentioned the republicans.

It's pretty simple to see that you are nothing but an apologist for obama, The most fucked up,jew, black, british citizen to ever occupy the whitehouse.

at some point you need to realise that he has built enough race, class divisions in this country to last another 100 years.

If that is what you believe we should be doing, then you truely are a fucked up liberal twat.

however, I think the problem is actually centered up in your entitlement mentality and your fucked up bullshit version of what you portray your life to be in contrast to what it actually is.

so sorry sissy, but your understanding of politics is second only to obama's idea of how to make this country prosper.

I don't know WHERE you got the idea that I'm influencing my daughter politically just because I said given the same situation she would be able to figure things out on her own...next...

I don't blame Bush for everything under the sun but I ALSO don't blame Obama for all of today's evils. Both parties share blame. That is a centrist viewpoint. Look at the BI-PARTISAN deficit reduction committee. They (ahem, Republicans and Democrats) recommended cuts to medicare/ss/defense spending and increased taxes on the wealthiest and/or closing tax loopholes. I agree.

And abso-fucking-lutely, absent a real plan to tackle the deficit/debt, the McConnell plan is a political ploy to shove responsibility off on Obama because they can't reach a compromise at this point. The Republican hope being that giving Obama responsibility for raising the debt ceiling (with supposed equal spending cuts that he's supposed to work out in a vaccuum), they can say "we didn't actually VOTE for an increase in the debt ceiling" and then they can go on to eviscerate everything he does from this point on and claim that he's operating on his own. Very convenient heading in to the 2012 election.

The Republicans are throwing in the towel and setting Obama up to take the blame because they can't agree to a deficit/debt package now.

That's why most Democrats are arguiing against the McConnell plan. It's clear political maneuvering.

Just asking. Jeez. Touchy subject?

So, no? Not ok?

This is my main concern regarding homeschooling. Kids who are homeschooled are more likely to adopt the religious and political bent of their parents.

I discussed politics with mine when they reached voting age. I knew they wouldn't read what they needed to read regarding platforms and legislation. I figured if I was still feeding them, I should have their vote. Now I don't ask the older ones because it isn't my business. If you pay for your house, you can vote how you want.

I think a vote for Obama would fuck you at Christmas at my house.

Like I said you don't understand shit about the McConnel plan, it is intended to give the dems a 100% majority, 23 of both houses to over ride a presidential veto, they can raise the debt limit at will and open the door for other criminal invasions of the house of representatives by the senate.

Obama should have drafted an acceptable plan. He is THE PRESIDENT. He SHOULD take the heat.

What do you think he should be doing? I'm totally missing why you think he's a victim for being forced to do his job...

McConnell might have fucked himself on that one. He may have to change parties. haha

"liberal activists with the grassroots group Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) marched to Mr. Obama's Chicago re-election campaign headquarters on Friday to protest potential changes to Medicare and Social Security. The group delivered 200,000 signatures from people who previously supported the president but will refuse to donate or volunteer for his campaign if the entitlement programs are cut."

Will Obama DARE to cut entitlement programs? I wonder if he gets more campaign contributions from big money or from individuals. If he doesn't cut entitlement programs and doesn't raise corporate taxes and taxes to the wealthy, what will he do? Nothing? Just raise the ceiling?

I hope he is forced to act or show that he won't act. Either way it will be very telling.

I'm not sure why people bitch that his presidency is messing up his reelection chances. No fucking shit. That's the nature of the beast. I wonder if people actually listen to the stupid shit they say. Yes, he will likely fuck himself for 2012. Mexicans can't reproduce quickly enough. I look for Obama to allow 2 year olds to start voting. haha

I don't think he's a victim at all but Republicans can't agree on this issue, and neither can Democrats. What possible "plan" could he draft that would pass muster on both sides? I'm pretty sure that's what all these meetings have been about but again, hard left democrats won't accept any cuts to medicare and ss and Republicans certainly won't accept any increases in taxes (or as I prefer to say, cuts in tax loopholes or closing the Bush tax cuts).

Forget Obama, Pelosi and Boner couldn't garner the votes to pass any plan (at this point) so how could Obama pull some magical plan out of his ass that will suddenly satisfy both parties?

So we'll end up with some piece of shit (McConnell) legislation or something similar that basically stalls the whole process. The McConnell legislation is somewhat designed to push responsibility off on Obama and cause a few votes before the 2012 election that probably won't look good for Obama. By design.

In the meantime, we again lost the opportunity to make meaningful (bi-partisan) steps for addressing the deficit.

Stop spending and reduce the debt, it doesn't matter what the politicians like but that would resound with the people.

He needs to repeal the obama heath care plan, this was not the time do that shit, he needs to allow the stimulus that is still unspeant to be speant on the debt, he needs to stop the crap with greasing the hands of the special interests and he needs to concentrate on nothing but a balanced budget.

It sounds like he might be willing to compromise with many of the Republicans and do it although I doubt they'll be able to put it together.
