Jhessye Shockley , 5, AZ -- MISSING/PRESUMED DEAD
#81
Ariz. -- Police and the FBI are at the home of the missing Glendale girl, Jahessye Shockley, who disappeared from her home more than a month ago.

The home was taped off Monday morning.

A suitcase was seen being removed from the home around 10 a.m. reported 92.3 KTAR's Jim Cross.

There are multiple reports of the girl's mother, Jerice Hunter, being arrested.

The specifics for the arrest are not known.

Glendale police have not confirmed any arrests.

Hunter's father, Jessie Hunter, was told of the arrest on Monday and believes when the truth comes out his daughter will not be found of any wrongdoing.

"My daughter hadn't done anything wrong," Jessie Hunter told reporters. "My daughter has nothing to hide and it's going to come out."

State Child Protective Services removed Hunter's four other children, including a newborn, from her home but have declined to say why, and police have said they had no involvement in that decision.

Yes, Jarice (mother) has been arrested for child abuse related to Jahessye. Reward money has been raised as they can't
find child. LE doesn't think child is still alive, but wouldn't give any details at this point.

Thanks Blueberry.

Wow I wonder what they have found out in the last few days to lead to arresting her for abuse and thinking the child is no longer with us?

So sad

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Police said Monday they've arrested the mother of a missing 5-year-old Arizona girl on child abuse charges.

Jerice Hunter was arrested on child abuse charges "directly related to Jahessye," Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said. Jahessye Shockley has been missing since Oct. 11.

Coombs said Monday investigators don't believe they'll find the girl alive and that Hunter "is our No. 1 focus."

Hunter's apartment was surrounded by police tape Monday as investigators in white jumpsuits searched inside. Police declined to say what investigators were doing.

A polygraph test has been offered to Hunter on multiple occasions, but Hunter has not been cooperative, Coombs said.

Nice mugshot, it deserves a place in the "mugshots you have to love thread". Wasn't she pregnant when Jahessye went missing? Did she have the baby or it it still inside her evil body?

It's been a painful journey for those who have been trying to get little Jhessye Shockley home.

Reverend Oscar Tillman with the NAACP has been holding on to hope. He had given Shockley's mother, Jerice Hunter, the benefit of the doubt all allong, but had a change of heart Saturday, the last time he spoke with her.

"She hadn't mentioned Jhessey at all," Tillman said. "So I said, 'Why are you asking me to help you get lawyers and things when you have not mentioned Jhessey's name.'"

When asked if he believed Hunter killed Shockley, Tillman refused to answer.

Josie Harrington, who works in the neighborhood where Shockley lives, helped in the search for the child and her anger lies with Hunter.

"If it was my child, I would have been out there the same day, ripping through people's houses, going crazy," Harrington said. "I didn't see the woman for four day."

Tillman said family members told him it was not unusual to see burn marks, bruising or missing teeth on the little girl.

Oh my God are you fucking kidding me. Thats not the song they sang in the beginning. Throw that whole damn family in jail. It is people like them that are ruining our society. They did not care jahessy was being burned and punched. This country is fucked! Do not even want to imagine how she killed her own child.

Jerice Hunter appeared in court Monday, but when she arrived, she was informed it was postponed until Tuesday.

Hunter has claimed she's innocent and had nothing to do with her daughter Jahessye Shockley's disappearance. But police believe the little girl is dead.

Before being told her hearing was postponed, Hunter shook her head and covered her face with her hands.

that poor little girl. Furious21

All three of Jhessye's sisters reported that the child was living in a closet in September 2011, with black eyes and missing hair and cuts and bruises.

This, after her mother Jerice Hunter, found the child wearing a long T-shirt while watching TV with a neighbor boy. Jerice, according to the 13 year old's account, called 5-year-old Jhessye a "ho" and took her into her bedroom where the older child soon heard Jheseye screaming and crying.

The child was then locked into a closet, though the 13 year old said she would sneak her sister food and water to keep her from getting dehydrated. Eventually, the closet looked like a grave and smelled like dead people, she said. Meanwhile, Jerice purchased cleaning equipment which she used to vigrously clean out the closet.

Though Jerice reported the child missing on Oct. 11, the 13 year old said she hadn't seen Jhessye since Sept. 12. Police now say the child hadn't been in school since Sept. 22.

GLENDALE, AZ - The mother of a missing Glendale girl who was arrested for alleged child abuse made her court appearance Tuesday morning and is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Oh poor sweet girl, this makes me so sad and angry!!
Finally the truth is coming out about this horrible mother!!

She should have never been allowed to have her children back and then go on to have more! Now the older children have to live with this for the rest of their lives, the young teen knowing that her little sister probably died in that closet.

This is just another example of child services and how crap they are. Really, the women was in prison for abusing her children, but is allowed to have them back when she is released!!!
Argh it makes me so mad, I wish I could do something.

Rot in hell you P.O.S

GLENDALE, AZ - A Valley church is raising money to get the mother of missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley released from jail.

The Christian Fellowship Church claims to have raised $3,000 of the $10,000 needed for Jerice Hunter’s bond, 10 percent of the total bond of $100,000.

“Glendale is trying to save face before Thanksgiving,” said Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Metcalff. “She will be exonerated of these charges.”

The reverend spoke outside the jail on Tuesday, joined by Hunter’s father. They both believe she is innocent.

Police have charged Hunter with child abuse in her daughter's case and admit they do not believe Jhessye will be found alive.

And while church members are standing by Hunter's side, some of her neighbors are taking a different side.

Once the details of Hunter’s arrest spread throughout her Glendale apartment complex, the feeling among neighbors switched from encouragement to anger.

“Heck yes I’m upset, I don’t even know what to say, I feel like she lied to all of us,” said Stormy Ray Benton, who helped organize many of the marches and searches for the missing 5-year-old.

A memorial filled with candles and letters near Jhessye’s home grew Tuesday night as people gathered and vowed to continue the search.

“I hope justice is served and I hope we find Jhessye,” said Benton. “We will continue to look for her and if we unfortunately find her body, we want to make sure she gets a proper burial.”

In the hours after detectives searched Hunter’s home, neighbors told ABC15 electricity has been turned off to the apartment unit.

“I’m just sick about this, I’m so angry, I have no respect for her (Hunter) now, it just breaks my heart to think something bad could have happened to a small 5-year-old girl, it’s ridiculous,” said Benton.

A Valley bail-bond company says it has denied an offer to write a bond for Jerice Hunter because her daughter is still missing and the bond amount is too low.

The operators of Regulator Bail Bonds, Inc., tweeted and Facebooked their displeasure last night, urging the state's other bail-bond companies to follow their lead.

The mother of missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley has been freed because prosecutors did not bring formal charges against her before a deadline passed, authorities said.

Jerice Hunter was arrested last week and booked on a felony count of child abuse. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said Hunter was released shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday.

phoenixnewtimes:
Jerice Hunter, the mother of missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley -- who is suspected in the girl's disappearance -- has been released from jail.

Hunter, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says, was released about 10:40 a.m today.

Jerry Cobb, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, tells New Times Hunter was released because no charges against her were formally filed within 48 hours of her arrest last week. Because charges weren't filed within 48 hours, authorities could not legally hold Hunter.

Cobb says that doesn't mean charges won't be filed in the future -- he says the MCAO is awaiting results from an additional investigation into Hunter by the Glendale Police Department before making any charging decisions. He says his office is working closely with Glendale cops, who suspect Shockley is likely dead and plan to search for her remains in a city landfill in coming weeks.
