Next week we will have a sentence. The jury was dismissed for the weekend, but they are ready to deliver her fate come Monday.

This has been such a long time coming.

Anyone care to take a guess as to why she has wanted to keep so much of this trial private?

We heard it all before though, she talked & talked & talked, we watched her on the stand for days. There was nothing left to hide. It's my opinion that's why the first jury couldn't put her to death, they spent so much time with her they felt like they knew her.

That's a good point, Duchess. The retrial jury heard testimony from Arias in closed court for a couple of days before the appeals court overturned Judge Stephens' decision to keep the witness testimony veiled. Then, Arias clammed up.

So, although the retrial took about as long as the trial and the retrial jury also looked at her mug for about 5 months, maybe this jury won't feel like they know her so intimately? That could make it easier for them to decide in favor of death. I think they'll give her life, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

I think Arias refused to continue testifying because it gives her an appeal issue if she's sentenced to death. She can claim that her personal mitigating witnesses were threatened (I actually believe that) and that the court failed to protect them and her by not keeping the retrial closed to media reporting = the retrial jury missed out on hearing some mitigating circumstances that could have kept her off death row.

P.s. I wonder where @Heartbreaker is hiding out these days. She followed the first trial closely and I liked reading her opinions, also Kid's and Tiki's and Adub's, etc.. I remember Heartbreaker posted her opinion of the Lifetime movie about Jodi and said it was a pretty good watch. It was aired just after the trial verdict was delivered, IIRC. I was all Jodi'd out at that point and never watched it. I read that it's being aired again this Saturday.

Saw on a different news channel this morning, that the reports that a deliberation coming today were premature. We will have to wait it out.

At least the end is near. I hope all those who cared about Travis are able to get some satisfaction with whatever may come.

The jury is gonna hang again or give her life without parole, IMO.

Those jurors who are currently voting for Death could be convinced by other jurors to negotiate down to LWOP. I think that's more doable than convincing those jurors who currently want to give her Life to vote for Death.

If the jury hangs and Judge Stephens decides sentencing, I don't believe she'll offer Arias the option of parole after 25 years. I think she'll sentence her to natural life behind bars.

Mistrial, she will do life. No closure for the Alexanders.

Thanks for the updates Heartbreaker and Js.

Disappointing, but not surprising. That was a lot of tax payer dollars wasted on what was a predictable outcome (IMO). But, Travis' family really wanted to push for a death sentence and I can respect that.

After the jury announced it could not agree on sentencing, Judge Sherry Stephens announced that she will sentence Arias on April 13. Stephens will either decide on life in prison, or life with possibility of release after 25 years.

Hopefully, Judge Stephens will not afford Arias the option of parole when she sentences her on April 13th and the Alexander family, though disappointed, can feel some sense of closure after 7 long years.

Here's the press release from the Alexander family.

I'm trying to accept that so many people saw and heard the very same things I did and they don't find the evidence enough to put her to death. I don't like not understanding, it makes me feel stupid. What more could she have done that would make them see she doesn't deserve the air she breathes.

I think if Jodi were a man and Travis had been female they wouldn't have hesitated to send her to death row.

I think that's probably accurate.

I saw on Noon News that vote was 11-1 and that one of the jurors said that the one holdout started out with anti-death penalty platform.
