I tried to post an article concerning this last week when I first read NJ was doing it, but it got all fucked up somehow. Anyway, this is why I said flying flags at half mast for Whitney Houstons funeral was a stupid idea. She's surely not the ONLY entertainer to ever come out of NJ, for one thing, and she wasn't in the military. I absolutely agree, lowering of the flag should be reserved for military members only.

A western Michigan man whose son was killed while serving in the military has burned a replica of New Jersey's flag to protest that state's decision to lower it in honor of performer Whitney Houston.

John Burri set the flag on fire Saturday on a grill outside his home in Wyoming, near Grand Rapids.

"It was $12.95 and it was the best money I ever spent," Burri told The Detroit News.

The 60-year-old Burri says lowering flags should be done for men and women who have given their lives in service to the United States.

"It was a slap in the face. It cheapens the meaning of lowering that flag," Burri told The Detroit News. "They're watering down the meaning of a hero."

Army Specialist Eric Burri died in 2005 in Baghdad. Michigan flags were lowered in his honor.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie defended his decision to lower flags for Houston. Christie noted the 48-year-old icon was born in Newark and raised in nearby East Orange.

Houston died Feb. 11 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The New Jersey cemetery where Whitney Houston is buried has had to close its gates to the public after too many fans have tried visiting her grave.

Houston was buried Sunday next to her father at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Westfield police Capt. Cliff Auchter tells the Star-Ledger of Newark that a sudden increase in visitors Monday afternoon caused gridlock along the cemetery's narrow lanes. Police say more than 100 cars clogged the roadways.

yes, there was a report that said she was laid out in white with no casket for private family viewing. maybe this was for friends. but i just knew a photo would make it out there. $$$$
