Well, Mo, as always, I liked reading your post. You have a way with words.

You asserted previously that I have changed my lifestyle as a result of fear -- fear of Islamic terrorist threats on American soil following 9 / 11. As I explained, your assertion was wrong.

You now seem to acknowledge that your assertion about changes in my lifestyle was wrong, without directly stating so. Instead, you claim that the reason I have not changed my lifestyle is because I am protected from being a target due to geography, living in San Francisco, California and all. Are you effin' kidding me, Mo? That's borderline batshit -- it's false and counter-intuitive.

I don't contest your assertion that the NSA, foreign services, and other governmental agencies in the US examined/modified/increased counter-terrorism measures as the Islamic terrorist threat to America (or the awareness thereof) grew. Of course they did. That's an undisputed fact and the efforts of those agencies contribute to my ability (and the ability of 85% of Americans, by your measure) to continue living my lifestyle, without fear of Islamic terrorist attacks.

I am more aware of terrorist threats than I was before 9 / 11 and I acknowledge that I am not immune to Islamic terrorist violence on American soil. But, I'm not afraid. You've chosen to live in a country with a high degree of Islamic extremism and have, by your own account, adjusted your lifestyle as a result of fear/threats of violence against foreigners there. Those lifestyle changes were prudent for the safety of you and your family, in my opinion. That doesn't mean that you can't have a rich and colorful life there anyway -- I haven't and wouldn't claim or insinuate otherwise.

Crab cakes (with eggs and Bloody Marys). You're making my mouth water. Awink

I feel a little antsy when I'm in a large group of people, for example a stadium setting. I'm not fearful but it is in the back of my mind.

I was just reading about this wanna-be jihadist from Ohio.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/16..._ref=crime

He was fixin' to launch terrorist attacks on the Capitol in Washington, DC -- using bombs and guns -- when he was arrested earlier this week.

His dad says that his son, Christopher Lee Cornell - 20, is a good boy and he was entrapped by the FBI counter-terrorism forces which were monitoring social media. Dad's gonna fight the charges, but he's afraid his son is gonna have the book thrown at him.

Dad's an idiot, in my opinion. When you're on Twitter promoting jihadist attacks in America and you show your attack plans to an undercover FBI agent, you're going down. As it should be.

I live on the East coast and live in a place that many people have guns and ammo. Whatever they do they would not get far, and are putting their stupid puny American dogs in their big fat heads the wrong way. Funny thing is that we have one of the lowest crime rates per capita than most of the United states. The east coast would not be a pushover well..........yeah they would go to a big city like New York where any gun is so well taxed and the fees are so high that people just say "hell with that" A liberal state that will someday need government intervention kinda like Cali where the government would defiantly be there like they did with GM at the any given moment when the need arises and things really go sour, like I feel will happen to Detroit at any given moment, mostly because of corruption and a lack of common sense,
Or President has taken the stance of not using the term
Islamic terrorist because it may offend any of the good ones. Not sure if this is good strategy or political correctness or wanting to become part of the Muslim brotherhood. Any commitment in doing the right thing is tantamount to any show of love for anything that these terrorist demand. First its bombing cartoon publication next it may be having a mosque next to the sausage factory and wanting it moved or some other brain numbing demand that is the current flavor of the month that these guys decide is right for THEM.
Remember it will not stop with cartoon drawing, I say make a stand now before it becomes a full blown mess and the Immigrants coming in from these countries are set up and ready to begin their selfish crusade, given time to setup. Any government that wants to take money from more people and not supply protection with many eyes on the ones that are coming in from abroad and slipping through the Mexican border, needs to stream line any funding with people set up to monitoring every cent that funds them and make sure it does not get somehow gets funneled into stopping the spotted owl from losing their nesting sites.
Hey ...I do not have a crystal ball but have a bad feeling that this will have a worse affect than anyone really knows. For all I know we could all go into some kind of hellish life that will be far worse than anything Global Warming would produce. But I'm just going by what my perception of what I read through national newspapers, actual interviews by real people, and all the sources coming out with the average take of things.

Peace. I'm just got yanked off my podium by little bo peeps shepherds hook.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

A surprise terrorist attack could go down anywhere.

I personally don't think an overseas terrorist organization or a local terrorist cell or lone wolf is gonna consider gun laws heavily in choosing attack sites. I think that opportunity, bang for the buck, and location of named/specific targets will continue to be the factors that determine where most future attacks and attempted attacks go down.

In San Francisco, we've been on alert plenty of times due to Islamic terrorist threats made in regards to the Golden Gate Bridge, foreign embassies, Yahoo, etc... Right now, members of IS are issuing threats against Twitter headquarters here. Twitter has been aggressively shutting down jihad accounts (though the jihadists only turn around and open new ones). Twitter HQ is in the Tenderloin district -- it's the district with the highest crime in the city; lots of guns on the street and lots of armed cops on the street.

If IS really wanted to hit Twitter and they had operatives ready and willing to strike like AQAP did in Paris, I don't think IS members or sympathizers would be dissuaded because there are guns in the area. I think the AQAP terrorist cell in Paris was well aware that Charlie Hebdo had a security door, that Charb had an armed body guard, and that there were armed police nearby -- the Qaeda-linked terrorists struck anyway. The gunmen happened to hit their targets and escape the scene, but in my opinion they likely figured they might die in the Charlie Hebdo building and were prepared to do so.

Good intel and tight security protocols are by the far best means by which to stop terrorist attacks before they happen. Once terrorists are already on the scene and ready for action, the element of surprise and a willingness to die goes a long way in pulling off a successful terrorist hit against any target, armed or not.

And yet, we all worry about our rights to privacy. Heaven forbid that the NSA gather billions of bits of cell phone data and try to pull out the actual terrorist threats from all the irrelevant day-to-day chatter. In that case I agree, if you're not cavorting with terrorists, who gives a fuck if they listen to tiny bits of your pitiful chatter? I don't think saying "weed" or "getting stoned" is going to even raise a little bit of notice--they're looking for much bigger fish to fry.

Fuck Snowden.

It scares me that I can think of dozens of ways that someone remotely determined could cause a lot of destruction. I don't even want to post them (water/food supply) but the possibilities seem endless and I'm just grateful that no one has seemingly gone there yet. *crosses fingers* In that regard, I just assume they stick to guns thankyouverymuch.

Darling dearest, I am not sure if I said somewhere that you as in YOU personally changed your life style, or if I meant it as you as in all of America. Wouldn't know right now, I tend to drink occasionally. A lot.

Oh no, there is no more rich and colourful life here anymore. Those times are over and we are planning to move asap. By now even I gave up hope for this place and it's a shame really. One of the most beautiful countries with 24 million seriously awesome people being fucked up by their top 5000 beyond any sort of help. Sad.

Anyway, for me myself it's ok, business is moving well, but daily life in general is fucked up and over. Still better than Syria I guess but even Mogadishu is moving faster ahead than here by now.

Yep, just a nice place were you can walk down the streets, just sit down somewhere and enjoy .... well, crab cakes and Bloody Marys perhaps. Smiley_emoticons_smile

Mo, you've always been so upbeat & positive about Yemen that to now see you posting some of the things you have recently makes me think it's really, REALLY bad there. You've always been nothing but complimentary about Yemen. I've enjoyed your thoughts and pix so much. I hope you're safe until you can get the hell out of there.

It really is a damned shame that Yemen appears to be a failed state, at least for now and the immediate future. It seems like you made the most of Yemen's beauty, and made a successful business and lots of wonderful friends there.

I've appreciated getting a glimpse of some of the good times and good people you've enjoyed in Yemen over the years and really hope things can be turned around for Yemenis some day (sooner than later).

Anyway, I'd love to offer you crab cakes, eggs and Bloody Marys when you come for a visit -- I've got the perfect spot in mind, anytime.

ETA: Next stop, Lombok? I could see you making a big splash there.

oh, gosh, Mo, I think of you every time I read or hear about what is happening in Yemen. To a fellow foodie and living life like I would want to, I hope you and your beautiful family can safely move out of there soon....keep us posted...

Well, we are actually ok, but it's a bit like Syria by now, which was also somewhat of a paradise before, but by now nobody knows how long this whole shit will be going on. So I myself will always be around here, but at least that the girls live in a normal world.

Lombok is definitely set for the future but it will take around 500k as the plan is to set up a boutique resort, so right now we are looking at Addis or Istanbul actually. I think Istanbul sounds cool. I'm sure they got Vodka and Tomato Juice so all that's left is me showing them how to make some decent crab cakes, eh voila, all is set! Smiley_emoticons_smile

I just called my guard at our house if my landlord has finally repaired my pool after 2 weeks and am being told he got shot in Dhamar 2 days ago by Al Qaeda. Now how the fuck do you argue with that?!

Sometimes she actually hunts me down with one. Don't know if it's the same thing so.

In Sana'a it's going wild. Here in the desert I'm having a wonderful sand storm going on, all yellow and gloomy outside, while in the capital they are finally shooting each others balls off. Good!

The girls are nice and safely tucked away, nothing happening there, and Jelly got a good stock to see her thru the next days. Unfortunately I have no idea what's happening with me here, as in when I'll be travelling back to Sana'a. Let's see.

This is Captain Bob reporting from Desert Ship USS Whatevaprise. Wish us luck, the Klingons are coming!

Not that surprising of an outcome I guess, but at least the paper had the balls to report it in the first place.

Iranian newspaper shut down for showing solidarity with Charlie Hebdo

Iranian authorities have shut down a newspaper and suspended its licence after it published a front page depicting George Clooney at the Golden Globes alongside the headline “I am Charlie, too”.

A media court in Tehran ordered the reformist daily Mardom-e-Emrooz, which was in its first month of publication, to be closed down at the weekend because it had shown solidarity with the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo following the deadly shootings at its offices.

Iran’s press watchdog, which operates under the country’s culture ministry and Islamic guidance, also suspended the newspaper’s licence on Monday, confirming its closure was due to the publication of the headline as well as Clooney’s picture showing him wearing a “Je Suis Charlie” badge, according to the state news agency Irna.

The Iranian government as well as a number of its senior clerics and officials have strongly condemned the Paris attacks that led to the killings of Charlie Hebdo journalists but at the same time have abhorred its publications of many cartoons showing Prophet Muhammad.

In the aftermath of the attacks, Iranian journalists who wanted to show solidarity with Charlie Hebdo were not allowed to hold rallies in Tehran.

The Iranian government, in particular, has condemned the latest cover of the magazine, which showed a weeping prophet Muhammad holding up a sign reading “Je Suis Charlie”, saying it was provocative and insulting to Islam.

Mardom-e-Emrooz’s closure came after a number of conservative media outlets in Iran, including the daily paper Kayhan, demanded it be shut down and MPs threatened to impeach the culture minister if no action was taken.

“If the culture minister does not firmly confront this newspaper, then he would be the subject of an impeachment,” MP Zohreh Tayebzadeh told the semi-official Fars news agency.

The New York-based International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said: “Demands for closure of Mardom-e-Emrooz gained momentum when Iranian state television joined Kayhan and other conservative publications and ran several news segments condemning Mardom-e-Emrooz.”

The Iranian news website IranWire said Mardom-e Emrooz’s closure highlighted Iran’s own battle for freedom of expression.

“The closure also points to a wider problem: Rouhani’s failure to expand freedom of the press in Iran more generally. The move reveals enormous divisions within Iran’s political landscape,” it said.

“The battle over free expression has just begun in Iran, with Rouhani and his administration pitted against hardliners, who are deeply entrenched in both parliament and the judiciary. The closure of Mardom-e Emrooz is a reminder of how bitter the fight will be, and illustrates how much power hardliners command.”

I'd say check back there in, oh, about 10 years. Time to go, Mo. Unless you're there on some mission (like James Bond, which is how I like to picture you--heh, heh). At least get Pussy Galore and the princess out of the country and to safety. Then have a martini, shaken, not stirred, and kick some ass.

Well, that's the plan am working on really, so lets see what our next destination will be, and hopefully over this year. The problem is that the Houtis have blocked all the ports, so my import line has been stopped, hopefully for a month or two only. Once that opens up, all should be well and moving quickly.

I think they didn't block that Iranian paper because of George saying he is Charlie but more so because it looks like he's holding Aussie's dildo. They don't like to show men holding dildo's on the news over there from what I hear.

Mohammed, look closely and notice that George is holding a pared down version of Aussie's Dildo. A significant difference. She graduated up from that a long time ago.
