Oh Zero, what? No, not all the time, sometimes it's a slippadictomy and others a flopadictomy.

Personally I prefer a Ramadichtomy

I see two Japanese Nationals have now been kidnapped by ISIS with a 48 hour deadline to pay $200 million, or they will be executed. I would link the article but I really don't feel like giving these pieces of shit excuses for humans any more air time than a few lines of text. My feeling is that Abe will pay the money; he will want to avoid a repeat of last time.

It's a catch 22. You pay, you fund them. You don't, two people, who don't deserve to, die.

A hundred million per person? That must be some sort of record for sure!

If they pay, they should have a guy from Guinness next to them with one of their certificates. No wonder the Somali's are all destitute and broke again. Nobody ever paid that much for one of their ships!

Yeah, I think the united force's bombings of ISIS oil assets and the like are really hobbling their income stream. ISIS seem to be getting big into the hostage game to compensate. Maybe they started high with the view of being negotiated down?

Here are the men :(

For months I have wondered why the people who are about to be killed appear to be calm. None of them ever seem to fight it, they don't struggle, they don't scream, they are resigned. However, I did see one woman who was beheaded in the streets. They found her guilty of the rape of her husband's daughter and they forced her to the ground. She was shrieking and proclaiming her innocence right up until the first whack.

They are all savages, blow them off the face of the earth. They don't deserve the air they breathe.

I just read that they publicly executed 13 teenage boys because they had been caught watching a soccer game.

The problem is that the Houtis have blocked all the ports, so my import line has been stopped, hopefully for a month or two only. Once that opens up, all should be well and moving quickly.

Front page news here is declaring a coup by the Houthis in Yemen.

Snip:
Yemen's powerful Shiite Houthi rebels shelled the residence of the country's embattled president Tuesday and simultaneously swept into the presidential palace in the capital, Sanaa, as a top military commander warned that a full-fledged "coup" was underway.

In a starkly different narrative, the Houthis' TV network al-Masseria claimed the rebels intercepted and foiled attempts by an unspecified group to loot weapons from the presidential palace.

The escalation shattered a tense ceasefire that had held overnight and throughout the morning, following Monday's heavy clashes that engulfed the city, leaving ordinary Yemenis stunned and fearing for their country.

The U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concern over the "deteriorating situation" in Yemen and urged all sides to cease hostilities.

Monday's violence left at least nine people dead and 67 were wounded, Yemen's deputy health minister, Nasser Baoum, said, while both Houthis and Hadi's forces blamed each other for the outbreak.

Houthis' power grab has been long anticipated and analysts say they are only "finishing the job" they began in September. "What is happening now is just one more step toward (the Houthis') consolidation of power," said Abdel-Bari Taher, a veteran Yemeni journalist and writer.

The weakening of Hadi, a top U.S. ally, undermines efforts by America and its allies to battle al-Qaida's Yemeni affiliate, which claimed responsibility for the attack on a Paris satirical magazine earlier this month. Washington has long viewed Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP as the Yemeni branch is known, as the global terror network's most dangerous affiliate.

I read that Dianne Feinstein is recommending we evacuate our embassy. Ya' think???

I know there are strategic reasons for having it there as long as possible but the place is imploding for chrissake. They could always go back when there's some level of stability.

The Charlie Hebdo Aftermath

Well, radicals on all sides are having an effin' field day in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in France.

Here's the reported chain of command behind the attacks orchestrated from Yemen; AQAP has now formally claimed responsibility.

All over the Middle East, there have been huge demonstrations condemning Charlie Hebdo and condemning those who claim, "Je suis Charlie". Deadly demonstrations have taken place in Niger and other heavily Islamic countries as well. Meanwhile, in Europe, the anti-Muslim radicals are capitalizing on the attacks.

The Shia Houthis who just stormed Yemen's Presidential Palace are aiming to take power over the country. While they claim to be ready to eradicate Sunni Qaeda in Yemen, they also call for death to Israel and death to America. The Houthis are rumored to be closely associated with Iran and ousted Yemini president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saleh ruled the country for 33 years, until the Arab Spring of 2011. The Houthis deny the affiliation, but it seems pretty obvious to me.

As the shit hits the fan in the power struggle going down in Yemen, two U.S. Navy warships moved into new positions in the Red Sea yesterday. They are ready to evacuate Americans from the US embassy in Yemen if an order comes to do so (according to CNN).

If an evacuation is ordered, the first option would be to have embassy personnel drive to the commercial airport in Sanaa and fly out, an official said. But in the wake of an embassy car being fired today, the safety of the roads in the capital is now being constantly evaluated. If embassy workers did drive to the airport it is likely some sort of air cover would be provided, under the current plan.

If helicopters and V-22 aircraft from the ships are sent to Sanaa, it would be a complex operation that could last for several days to fully evacuate "several hundred Americans" from the embassy, the official cautioned. "Nobody should think this would be easy." (CNN)

The US military is aware the State Department wants to keep the embassy open as long as possible, the official said, noting that it's a valuable tool to monitor Al Qaeda in Yemen. But behind the scenes the Pentagon is pressing the point that if an evacuation becomes necessary they want to do it before the chaos in Sanaa descends into a 'non permissive environment," akin to combat. For now, the US believes the Houthis are not targeting Americans, but its not clear if that will last.

Shitstorm.

I would not want to be in the US embassy in Yemen right now. They should have been or be evacuated as soon as possible. If it's safe, we can always re establish the embassy there. Crazy. The only benefit I see is if they can hang on a little longer to evacuate Mo.

Why do I always worry about the girls?

I have it in my head that Mo's a survivor, like I needn't worry about him. I hope those two gorgeous girls of his are out of harms way. Something tells me Mo will have that covered though.

I don't want to be all mushy but I think he's taking care of his women and hopefully taking care of himself too. I could see you doing the same in similar circumstances.
My husband on the other hand would probably see if he could trade us for safe passage somewhere.

Understandable...so I'll do it. It's hard not to feel a little mushy and concerned when someone you know and like is in a situation like this.
