Breaking news @ 11pm -Osama Bin Laden dead
(05-02-2011, 03:55 PM)Midwest Spy Wrote: I haven't actually caught much of the European reaction or the Arab world's take on this. What have you seen/heard over there?

I don't really know about the rest of Europe but in Britain 99.9% of people are glad he is dead after 911 and 7/7, I thinks it is fitting that a bullet from an American soldiers gun is what took him out.

Payback is a bitch.

Very, very fitting, indeed!

10 years, trillions of dollars, thousands of soldiers dead, state of thee art technology. The US finally found Bin Laden......................

.....in his house.

Living within a few miles of a major military base in Pakistan. Gee, think they were sheltering him? Fuckers.

I know . . . I'm a Monday morning quarterback.

That really could've been priceless...

Terrorist: Hello?
CIA: Yeah, we're sending Bin Laden back to you.
Terrorist: Really? Where should we pick him up?
CIA: Don't worry, we're sending him FedEX. Actually, he should be arriving in the next couple of minutes....

Oh peachy. Osama left his supporters an audio or videotape (not sure which yet) to be played in the event of his death. Stay tuned...

ABC

The Obama administration has photographs of Osama bin Laden’s dead body and officials are debating what to do with them and whether they should be released to the public, officials tell ABC News.

“There’s no doubt it’s him,” says a US official who has seen the pictures and also reminds us that OBL was 6’4”.

The argument for releasing them: to ensure that the public knows and can appreciate that he's dead. There is of course skepticism throughout the world that the US government claim that it killed bin Laden is true.

The argument against releasing the pictures: they’re gruesome. He has a massive head wound above his left eye where he took bullet, with brains and blood visible.

I vote "no". As OP said earlier, people will complain that's it's disgusting sensationalism. Plus, the doubters will STILL doubt and probably claim they're photoshopped.

I have a strong stomach. I vote release them.

I have no interest in seeing pictures of his corpse.

This is because I am a normal human being.

I say, "More outrageous displays of frivolity and deliberate lack of respect."

If we're fucked, let the folks at least have some fun and refuse to mope and be scared.

I'm going to back-pedal a bit here and amend my answer (slightly). I think some effort to retaliate was inevitable from the time our forces put a bullet in his head. I think images of Americans celebrating in the streets could inflame some people further still. But, like I said before, I understand why people are celebrating (I'm feeling it too) and thankfully we live in a free country where they can; I wouldn't change a thing.

Party on, dude.

I think having retards celebrating outside the Whitehouse was an opportunity missed to take the moral high ground.

"We don't celebrate death in the west like they do in the middle east, this is because we are better people than them".

Instead you had gurning wankers with flags yelling "USA!, USA!, USA!" just like the tosspots in Palestine jumping around like mongs after 9/11.

Very few people understand that & even fewer care.

Moral high ground sounds eerily like a GOP campaign slogan.

It's a shame that Obama didn't emphasize public restraint on the part of the masses.

But you can't tell me he didn't privately "high-five" the inner circle and then broke out the good stuff.

And who would blame him for such a display?

Not me.

Are you sure he was the one who planned it?

Not that he was a nice guy or might not have cut somebody's head off or some such, but ...

And this

UMMAT: You have been accused of involvement in the attacks in New York and Washington. What do you want to say about this? If you are not involved, who might be?

USAMA BIN LADEN: In the name of Allah (God), the most beneficent, the most merciful. Praise be to Allah, Who is the creator of the whole universe and Who made the Earth as an abode for peace, for the whole humankind. Allah is the Sustainer, who sent Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for our guidance. I am thankful to the Ummat Group of Publications, which gave me the opportunity to convey my viewpoint to the people, particularly the valiant and momin (true Muslim) people of Pakistan who refused to believe the lies of the demon (Pakistani military dictator General Pervez Musharraf).

I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States.

That's about all that could have been done (Obama suggesting restraint). It might have cut down the number of revelers...or not.

What are we going to do, institute martial law on the retards?

I have to wonder, OP, if it had been a group of British soldiers who had performed that operation if your own retards might have come out of the woodwork too.

I don't believe Obama felt the enthusiasm and demonstration was unjustified.

For political reasons or for a long overdue release of the masses.

We aren't talking the LA riots. Just a bunch of folks screaming "USA, USA, USA" and waiving flags.

Reminds me of a wedding just a few days ago . . . without the "Dead Osama" souvenirs.

Everything I've posted today had to do with the public display of celebration. People are entitled to high five each other & pat each others backs, Osama's death is a coup, I can't get past that dancing in the streets stuff, the carnival like air to the celebration for the entire world to witness. I am not differentiating between those that did that & those in the Middle East who celebrate the deaths of American soldiers & Americans in general. I don't see any difference...at all.
