J Crew AD blows gender roles

No, it won't. But it could subject them to some teasing. When gays have all the rights of heterosexuals, I will be less inclined to care how my kids turn out (not that there's choice in the matter...I'm pretty sure they'll be whatever they were born to be). But until the bigotry is gone, I think most parents hope that their kids won't have to face that. We're inching closer but we're not there yet so yeah, I hope my kids aren't gay (in this day and age).

I'd really have an internal flip-out if one of my kids did the whole transgender thing. Damn. I'd love my kids regardless but please God, let them not physically alter their parts and make me call my son "my daughter" or vice versa.

I agree...and more confining. Boys are not allowed to express emotions as freely as girls, and simple things like girls can dance with girls or boys but boys do not have that choice. The discomfort boys feel about their conduct is learned at an early age. If your child likes pink then just be happy he feels free to express that to you. Being judgemental about who he is can prove to be harmful even if its well-intentioned and you think you are doing it for his own good or to pepare him for the 'outside world' he is soon to face. Maybe you are projecting your discomfort onto him and what is really being taught is narrow-mindedness and how to stymie his nature for the benefit of others.

Do people really need to be concerned with what colors their children like when they are toddlers? That seems kind of extreme for parents to be flaking out about it before their kids even know their ABC's.

It really does not matter with little kids but when they turn into teenagers sometimes they want to be different and do all kinds of strange shit. Then they become..............hells messengers.

My daughter never liked dolls or barbie type shit when she was younger, it was always animals and aliens and cars.

I suppose girls have more freedom than boys but I don't see why.

Now its Pokemon morning, noon and night, the trading card game my daughter plays is more complicated than fucking Bridge.

Love that one Maggot. Damn you are growing on me just like Cracker is.
I have three and helped raise six step children. I soooo agree with you.
The interesting thing is that by the seventh, eighth and ninth, there is
not much one has not experienced as a parent, and the youngest have
learned the tricks not to get caught. I get such a kick out of a one/two
parent household when their child does 'x, y or z' and they are freaking
out like the world is coming to an end. Been there, done that, the
earth does not stop revolving, it will be resolved and they will probably grow
up like mine to be so damn conservative that I have to hide my pot when
they are around or they would flush it or turn me in to the cops. Go figure.

And doing an empowerment dance while peeing standing up will not make a girl a lesbian. That doesn't mean I want her to go around peeing while standing up. And explaining to her that only boys do that isn't going to ruin her for life anymore than telling your son he can't go to school in a tutu with ribbons in his hair. The color pink isn't even the issue.

At least they weren't rockstar nails. All that glitter would have just went too far. Just imagine if mommy would have made them all the colors of the rainbow

Were you born an idiot or did your mom make you into one as you grew up?

go ahead tell me it wasn't her fault, tell us how loving and supportive your parents were, the reality of the truth is written all over this board in your fucked up posts.

Nothing wrong with a girl being a "Tom Boy" for the same reason that very few guys mind watching two girls exchanging tongue. But let them watch two guys gently blowing each others necks and you'll see quite a difference.

I don't think a colour will make a difference, but from past experience, if a boy takes on liking the toys and behaviours of the girls, THEN it is a warning sign that his lower digestive system might be in for more than just a one way traffic.

It's always the mom's fault.

Here's the thing. Children are born heterosexual because nature drives us and we're designed to want to procreate. Children that grow up homosexual do so because of nurture issues (usually the result of some failure on the part of the mother). Parents who have, for example, one child who grows up to be heterosexual and another who grows up homosexual clearly allowed the homosexual child free access to stuff that made them gay (like pink nail polish where boys are concerned).

I used to strongly believe in the nuture side of the debate (nature vs nuture) but I have since changed my mind. I believe it can be a combo of both , but I also think it can be nature alone. I believe one can be born with homosexual tendencies and whether the parents choose to encourage or discourage these tendencies can strongly impact the child's sexual preference. A male relative of mine who is now openly gay came out of the womb with female qualities/characteristics. He loved girl stuff from the start. He would only play with dolls, other girl toys and only wanted to engage in activities typically associated with females. He even had a slight lisp and feminine gestures/body movements. He was always overly sensitive, dramatic and quite frankly a pussy(run from spiders, etc.) At first the parents thought it was just a phase and never made a big deal of it and never told their son "that's only for girls". But they certainly didn't encorage it either. The rest of the family didn't believe it to be a phase and we were all sure that he would be a homosexual. I didn't say "choose to be a homosexual" because I don't believe he chose to be. I really don't. I've frequently heard gay people refer to their childhood and claim that they always felt somehow different or that they had an attraction to the same sex from their earliest memories. Perhaps if his parents insisted on sports or nutured activities typically associated with males then maybe the end result would be different. Nature was the dominant facture with my relative. And, no I don't care that he is gay. I love him no matter what. Times have changed...society's views have changed...my views have changed.

I was totally being sarcastic (and apparently didn't communicate that well enough). I think sexual orientation is absolutely nature/not nurture. I was just having fun with Dick's outdated mentality.

It's ok username, no guts no glory is normal for you anyway.

You talk a lot of shit and that's about it.

tell you what sweetie, tell your son that you want him to paint his toenails pink and go to school that way, see if he thinks it's ok.

Just remember that if he says screw you mom ,just tell him that his ideas are outdated and wrong that should convince him that it's cool to do it.

Please show me where I said that I think sending boys to school with pink toenails is a good idea.

When you can't find it, you're welcome to come back and kiss my ass.
