Not so much comparing apples to apples is it?
People volunteer with the explicit belief they will taken care of if they are injured mentally or physically. They expect to be labeled "non-deployable" if they are not in fit condition to continue in combat positions. We promise them that. They don't think we will fuck them when we want to cut the budget. They really should know better, I guess.

The wife of the U.S. soldier accused of killing 17 Afghan villagers has defended her husband in an interview with NBC's Today show, saying she finds the charges ‘unbelievable' while vowing to stand by him.
Karilyn Bales told Matt Lauer this morning that her husband, Staff Sargent Robert Bales, is 'very brave, very courageous'.
She said her husband had no nightmares or any other signs of PTSD, and says she didn't ask him about the accusations when she spoke to him on the phone.
'He seemed a bit confused as to where he was or why he was there,' she said. 'I don't think I'll have to ask him. I think he'll tell me.'
When asked what kind of a dad her husband is to their two children - a girl named Quincy, four, and a boy named Bobby, three - she said: 'He's a very involved father. He loves children, he's like a big kid himself.'
‘I have no idea what happened, but he would not ... he loves children, and he would not do that.’
She said she was in the grocery store when she heard the news and prayed it wasn't her husband. WHY WOULD SHE THINK IT WAS HER HUSBAND?? She soon received a call from officials who broke the news.

President Obama did the right thing! God Bless you!
Bales had to be from Ohio I wish this had not been the case. Mr & Mrs Bales IMO were living beyond their means and according to the UK Daily Mail "see below" this home and more financial troubles for Mr. Bales well, he just couldn't handle it all! Drinking is a real good idea to cope with problems but, he couldn't contain that anger and rage he had to go on a bloody killing spree that's what, that would solve it all! What a bastard! Here is your answer why did this happen? Money!!
UK Daily Mail
"The Bales family had a Seattle-area home condemned, struggled to make payments on another and failed to get a promotion a year ago. Karilyn Bales put the family's Tacoma-area home up for sale days before the rampage."

@NightOwl, sounds like money problems at home may have contributed to Bales's mental state. But, how many people have money problems and how many end up slaughtering 16 or 17 people because of it, either at home or abroad? Will be interesting to hear more about all of the other factors that may have contributed to the mass murder committed by Bales.

Snippets from the UK Daily Mail.
The Bales met each other on a dating website they married in 2005 - he's from Ohio she's from Washington State - Bob Bales went to Ohio State for 3 years for Business and did not graduate! yet he has a job handling an elderly Ohio couples' finances and bloody rips them off, a right big muddle there. Bales joins the military after 9⁄ 11 that would distance him from his $$$ woes back in Ohio alright LOL. There is some kind of hit and run incident where Bales runs with his camouflage uniform on yet covered in blood flees into the woods. There is some kind of an assault on an ex girlfriend this is before the wife, he manages to squeeze out of it by going to anger management classes.
I wonder if the new wife knew anything at all about the elderly Ohio couple?
This $229,000.00 what a great starter home for newlyweds, they start off small. Bales failed to be awarded the Promotion to E7 I believe which probably meant more $$$ and a few days later Mrs. Bales put the house up For Sale. I think Bales got so angry at the military, then the wife for putting the house up for sale. When the going gets tough with this fellow he wants to flee from it all. I just read his lawyer isn't going to plead insanity, so we will wait for more news on this story.

Thanks for the update NightOwl. Could be a combination of all the pressures you outlined back "at home", plus a whole lot more brewing on-base. I'm with you - looking forward to some confirmed details on what actually happened, and hopefully some clues as to why.

Yeah, I also think it was a combination of all the pressures he was soon to face once back home, just imagine that wife of his on top of the poor guy, and being a total and utter idiot since quite a few years.
No doubt such a combo brings on such a murderous rage.

I knew I had heard that term before so I did a quick search, another Member started a thread about 9⁄11 being a false flag. What do you think about that?

Two words - Building Seven. And two more - Operation Northwoods. OK so that four. And before anyone rambles on about "Oh there's no way we could keep an op of that scale secret. It has too many moving parts blah blah blah"
I have three more - Any skunkworks program.

One of the most famous false flags in history was the Polish "attack" in 1939 against the German border radio station. This gave Hitler his excuse for "retaliating" and invading Poland, thus starting WWII,
Another is the alleged Gulf of Tonkin incident, which was used as an excuse for the escalation of our military involvement in Vietnam.
I know a number of left wing conspiracy lovers who have always maintained that 9⁄ 11 was a false flag. I never gave the theory a second thought.
WTF but Islamic militants would benefit from arranging such a horrible act?
Then I saw the movie THRIVE. I highly recommend that people watch it, for a number of reasons. It is available free for viewing and download at the THRIVE website.
I'm still not sure I believe it, but the movie does give a very plausible motive.
Has anyone noticed what became of our civil liberties since 9⁄ 11 and the passage of the Patriot Act and its progeny? The original Patriot Act came up for a vote (and was passed overwhelmingly by both Houses of Congress) mere HOURS after the voluminous Act was printed. NOBODY had a chance to read it.
On that day, the Bill of Rights went on life support.
We are now sliding down a slippery slope that, if unchecked, will result in a totalitarian government here and ultimately worldwide.

Should we talk about how the negative spin on the term 'Conspiracy Theorist' is most likely an important part of any conspiracy?

Absolutely true.
Or maybe the negative spin is the result of rational people viewing many conspiracy theories as absurd or lacking in substantive evidence.

Ugh. You skeptics are no fun. I think the most important question is - I forget what the most important question is.
