This would be enough to make me drive on my next trip

A PILOT was wrestled to the floor by passengers yesterday — after running around a packed jet shouting: "We're all going down — say your prayers."
Captain Clayton Osborn bellowed about "bombs" and "al-Qaeda" before being restrained.
The 135-passenger Airbus A320 plane was forced into an emergency landing.
Captain Osborn had been locked out of the cockpit by a co-pilot concerned about his erratic behaviour when he left to use the bathroom.

Oh! Zerospheres, you crack me up!!
That Captain was a freak and he'll be down on his knees praying he's alive after this one! the Corrections Officer on board near killed him.
I'm sure glad the plane had well trained fellows' on board, passengers' had to be terrified.
Cheers!!! to all the fellows' that stopped him.

did passengers have to pay extra for the in-flight entertainment?

Guess he won't be flying any time too soon.

Federal authorities filed criminal charges against the JetBlue Airways Corp. pilot whose erratic actions diverted a New York-to-Las Vegas flight Tuesday, describing fresh details of a harrowing scene inside the cockpit that led to the plane's unscheduled landing in Texas.

JetBlue is the airline I fly every couple of weeks. Glad this turned out okay for the passengers. Usually plenty of drinking going down on Las Vegas flights and lots of passengers all psyched to get there. Could have gotten ugly having the pilot go into a religious/terrorist rant and ending up grounded in Texas. The co-pilot and crew did a good job managing the situation.

HairOfTheDog, I agree it must have been harrowing for the passengers. Think I read he had just been reprimanded for something earlier that day and also did not show up for the flight briefing that is mandatory for the crew to prepare 1 hour befor the flight.

I love JetBlue. I fly that airline all the time...Oakland to Long Beach (although they've cut their flight options which really pisses me off).

We may have been on the same flight at some point! I used to fly JetBlue from Oakland to LongBeach all of the time, til a couple of years ago when they started offering JetBlue flights out of the international terminal at SFO. Still sometimes fly out of Oakland too.
If you're close enough to fly out of either airport, it increases your flight options a bit despite the cuts in flight options. I got $67 flights both ways week before last (then spent $200 on car rental, of course ).

i don't know yet what happened in court.
The JetBlue pilot who caused a midair scare among passengers as he flipped out during a flight from New York to Las Vegas was escorted out of a Texas hospital this morning on his way to his first court appearance.
Clayton Frederick Osbon, 49, was led into a vehicle by FBI agents from The Pavilion at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where his flight was forced to land after he allegedly ran down the aisles advising passengers to 'say your prayers'.
The pilot appeared visibly distraught during the short walk.

I hate flying these days. It's a total rip off that we have to pay to check our bags. And here is a itty bitty bag of nuts and a cup of soda. Last time my brother and I flew from Houston back to Atlanta the flight attendent gave Mike a cup of diet coke. He asked if he could have the can and she gave him such a dirty look. It's a freakin can of soda! Assholes.

Are you aware that free upgrades to first class are pretty easy to get? If first class isn't fully booked & won't be for the duration of your travel one can simply ask, same goes for hotel suites when you check in.

I think I'm in the Duchess frame of mind when it comes to flying now.
My final flight home from DC to Indy was nothing short of HORRIFYING!!!!
There has to be a better definition than "turbulence"
How about..."This is way beyond turbulent...WE'RE GONNA FUCKING DIE!!!
My sister had her head in the barf bag, just in case...the other 2 were across from us holding hands in a death grip. I was ready to burst out bawling and crying for my momma. I was suffering alone in my silence and nearly had a fucking mental breakdown. I swore I would never fly again.
That all being said, I was looking online yesterday for my next destination. Probably back to Jamaica next year. I'll be packing Xanax or Valium...

The silence in the cabin while the plane feels like it's moments from plunging into a death spiral is what got me the most about my most recent trip.
I looked over at my wife (sitting between our kids) and she's got a tear trickling down her cheek.
Everyone must be thinking/feeling the same thing, it's just that no one screams out (though they want to).
BTW, the day after, she too was looking to see where we could go next.
Too funny.

That's how it starts. Just awful wasn't it? I can remember my lip quivering the first time it happened to me & actually praying not to make a scene or do anything to draw attention to myself, when all I wanted to do was wail. I was so pathetic.

I remember flying with my kids when they were around 3 and we hit some bad turbulence. They were scared so I said "weeeee, it's like a rollercoaster"!!! I'm pretty sure I sounded crazy...which was about how I felt.

That's exactly how I felt. In my mind, I wanted to smack the shit out of my sister. Sitting right beside her baby sister and no comfort at all...I didn't care that she was probably scared shitless, as the baby, I wanted some fucking comfort!!!
I will never talk to that bitch again...
It was funny when some idiot got up to go the the bathroom in the middle of it all, and the stewardess yells..."SIR, GET BACK IN YOUR SEAT, NOW". You could hear the fear in her voice!!
I wanted to say... yeah, get back in your seat and pee in your pants like everyone else.

The first flight wasn't so bad...after the bullshit in the airport and having to run to the plane, we were in the very back row. The stewardess heard us all bitching and we all got free cocktails and food for the whole 5 hour flight.
I think we would have been put in first class had it not been full.
