...and I find it extremely offensive.
It's obviously wrong to judge other people on any parameter over which they have no control but forcing others into your own beliefs is more wrong even than the bigotry and racism practiced by those who want to jam political correctness down our throats.
This thread could go bad but I'm hoping to discuss this and gain insight.

political correctness is a modern construct based on one of the oldest tenets we like to quote but not necessarily follow: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You find this sentiment echoed throughout all the world's religions as well as in most "noble professions" requiring some sort of oath. First, do no harm.
We live in a world where people judge "otherness" as wrong and therefore something to destroy. It is one of our baser instincts and has been the guiding force behind some of our darkest and most shameful historic events as human beings. We tend to want to kill anything that isn't exactly like ourselves, and worse, we tend to lash out and destroy anyone who tries to preach acceptance and tolerance.
We are not a welcoming species. We've been doing each other in over imagined differences ever since two cavemen on one side of the river saw a third on the other side and said, "Hey that guy's on the wrong fucking side, let's go bash his head with a rock." We celebrate our most murderous or bloodthirsty humans with immortality, and if any philosophers step forward to point out the error of this we make them drink hemlock or hang them from a cross.
It has always been this way. We are not nearly so evolved as we like to imagine ourselves...

This line made me smile, Clad. It's a good topic, imo.
Here's my take.
Most people can aggressively make their points, debate heatedly, mock, and move on; respecting that they’re typically not going to change another’s mind when it comes to matters of religion, race, sexuality, politics, morality, etc… The majority really values the diversity of viewpoints, in my experience.
Then, there’s what I mentally refer to as the “spattin’ naggers”. Always in a spat with someone. Peripherally offending/annoying those not targeted is a bonus. When they’re not spattin’, they’re naggin’ someone over real or perceived slights or differences of opinion (or attempting to create friction). In topical debate/discussion, spattin’ naggers aren’t as interested in the politically correct cause/point that they’re feverishly trying to push; it’s more about trying to convince themselves and others that they’ve defeated someone else, even when there is no victory possible because opinion/judgment is subjective.
While some may find spattin’ naggers offensive, freedom of expression trumps all and they sometimes serve a purpose. There's a place for them in the internet ecosystem, in my opinion.
Have you hugged a spattin' nagger today?

I find it ironic to talk about political correctness when there seems to be very little civility and respect left in politics.
Made me think though. Do you think we are more pc now or less? Which direction are we going?

Political correctness is just peer pressure on a macro scale. I think it's always existed although the issues change. It used to be improper for women to wear pants or for interracial couples to marry. When attitudes start to change, there's pressure exerted for others to follow suit.
It can be annoying and it isn't necessarily right but it is what it is. I don't like someone trying to force their beliefs on me either.
I do believe that we're becoming somewhat less civil as a society. You see it in politics and online. 20 years ago you mother fuckers wouldn't have had a place like Mock to spout your vile vitriol. Now you can "defriend" people, harass them anonymously online...the possibilities are endless.

I have I called you a retard today? If not consider to have just happened.
both of those things were moral issues and had nothing to do with political correctness.
Today politically correctness means you have to put some other country in front of American.

Okay, that's disturbing. Probably not a violation of any law or rights, but it pisses me off. Political activists trying to use guilt and shame within a constituency in order to motivate its individuals (to vote). A strategy ripped straight out of the Organized Religion Playbook. Invasive.

Fucking bobble head. You can't type a coherent sentence and yet you call other people retarded? Haha!
Sorry, stupid, you don't get to define what constitutes being "politically correct" (except in your made up, fucked up world with your imaginary friends).
Here's one definition:
Political correctness (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term which denotes language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, certain other religions, beliefs or ideologies, disability, and age-related contexts, and, as purported by the term, doing so to an excessive extent.
Being "pc" is all about morality. It's not pc to call black people niggers, it's not pc to protest at military funerals. These are all examples of society attempting to pressure people NOT to do certain things (or to do certain things). Current pc debates include whether women should feel free to openly breastfeed in public and gay marriage.
Bottom line...pc encompasses all social activities. The "political" part is somewhat of a misnomer. It's not about politics; it's about what is/isn't socially acceptable at any given time.

It's a typo, fuck off Retard.
I already did define PC and I also made a pointed example of your stupidity in the process.

You inserted a stupid definition of pc that has no basis in reality. In your simplistic world it has something to do with other countries. Looking at the trees instead of the forest.

Perhaps it is your simplistic view of things that is blocking out the depth of what I said?
But just in case you might know something I have a small question for you.
When did it become unacceptable to just call everyone who is a citizen of this country simply an American?
