Johnny S. Clarke & Lisa Straub- young Ohio couple murdered
The State now has 5 confidential informants/witnesses. So the defense only gets to see who they are, and what they have to say, one week before trial. That's kind of tricky. When the third one came forward, I was hopeful that the "others" that we keep hearing about may be arrested. And now they have added two more.

No, I would not say that they are covering all bases. It is more like the State is calling the defendant's bluff. At the time that the State filed the motion for a retard evaluation, the defendant had not yet submitted the report from Dr. Fabian.

This came about because of the appeal that the defendant filed to get rid of Judge Bates. In the appeal the defendant stated that the Judge was unfair because he denied the defense more money to have the defendant evaluated. And that the Judge had denied the defendant's motion to have the death penalty taken off the table. The Judge said you have already had enough money, and besides, we've seen no report of an evaluation for the $15,000 that you have already been given. The appeal was denied.

In the meantime, the State snuck in and said, "Hey, if the defendant is going to appeal based on retardation" we want to have a second opinion. It is our right. Slick move.

The defense said, "No, we've already had him evaluated, and here is the report. And while he may to too retarded to be put to death, he is competent enough to understand and assist in his defense at trial.

So what is really going on here? I'm not sure except that the defense is sure trying to get the death penalty off the table. They have been from early on. And it seems to be their main objective. Which I find puzzling because what the defense has reported is a mitigating circumstance. Has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. It should be part of the sentencing phase, I would think.

Good post Adub, yes kind of tricky is right! I'm wondering if the Reward Money going to $75,000 and call Crimestoppers etc., possibly enticed confidential witness #4 & #5 it could be 2 different people or a couple even.

I just pray for Johnny & Lisa give us justice for them.

i called crimestoppers and was told there is no 75 K reward unless maytee was going to pay it out. not likely on disability/welfare checks.
her compulsive reward posts are a damn hoax. in my opinion.

could they have attracted some hood rats? maybe. they're pretty stupid.

exactly. the defense knows enough that they are looking ahead to the penalty/sentencing phase.
a defense lawyer's job in some death penalty cases is well done if they can keep their client out of the death chamber. sometimes that is the most that can be hoped for.

And I couldn't careless if either of the defendants get the death penalty. Both, obviously, had less than stellar parenting. Parents that are right up Maytee's alley.

After watching that video of Johnny and the what all I can get you drug talk, it really hit home how far out of her league Lisa was. And Johnny too, probably. Teenagers feel that they are so invincible.

Johnny and Lisa were still just teenagers. But I believe that Johnny had seen a lot more of the negative side of life than Lisa. She probably did not have a clue.

i don't think you meant that in actuality. they were 21 and 20 respectively. young adults.

See there you go, my interest is waning. I'm not keeping on top of it.

I do want the Straubs to have answers. They deserve it.

And I want Maytee to continue to be batshit crazy. Although, I do think a bit of it is just for show.

Adub, thanks for more news, "Mr W" will be difficult to find, Federal charges doesn't sound good to me, my guess is hard drugs, smuggling. Wood Co. is next door to Lucas Co. Pettaway's baby mama was busted for Prostitution in Wood Co also a Rupert woman connected to either Williams or Pettaway.

Some information on the witness list Doris Aliemenious, is Sam Williams mother. George Williams I believe is Samuel Williams Father.

Ms. Dorian Hall is IMO supervisor of investigators for Ohio public defender's office, I am adding a link for an article before I do, I just wish to add it was monsters' that night, it was devils' don't forget ever folks what poor Johnny and Lisa must have gone through.

She testified at a Sept. 22 hearing to challenge Maryland’s execution protocol, saying that the noises were audible through the walls and window after the staff closed the curtain. "

*gasp* Holy Moly! Is that an attempt to garner sympathy for what these monsters go through when they are being put to death for their despicable crimes?

Toledo Blade 6/17/2011

A Toledo man charged in the asphyxiation deaths of a Springfield Township couple waived any potential conflict of interest and opted to keep his court-appointed lawyers.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros reviewed the potential conflict with Samuel Williams, who faces the death penalty if convicted of multiple charges. Williams, 24, of 1626 Kelsey Ave. is one of two men charged in the Jan. 31, 2011, asphyxiation deaths of Lisa Straub and Johnny Clarke in a Longacre Lane home.

The issue involves whether Williams' attorney, John Thebes, has a conflict of interest because he previously represented one of the possible witnesses in the case.

Williams said he understood the potential conflict and voluntarily chose to sign a waiver. Judge Mandros reserved ruling on whether to appoint a new attorney until it is learned if the potential witness also is willing to sign a waiver.

Both Williams and co-defendant Cameo Pettaway, 22, of 133 Essex St. are charged with two counts of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated burglary, and two counts of kidnapping. Both men are scheduled to go to trial July 17.

Before Friday's hearing, a dispute between friends and family of the victims and the defendants prompted Judge Mandros to ban a member of Williams' family from the courthouse. He also set in place rules for how the families were to be allowed in the courtroom.
