Why is this reckless conduct but texting and driving is murder?

Maybe it is a North/South thing. Or that the Housekeeper got hysterical and had to be hospitalized. One of the dead was her grandaugher, right? So maybe they are just being easy on her, seeing as she also is a victim of her own stupidity.

Mia Penoyer, 5, and Sophia Juarez,5, were found dead at the bottom of a backyard pool on Sunday afternoon

No pool fencing laws in the states, huh?

I wonder how this works in the Darwinian scale; Stupid elders removing their own progeny from the gene pool...

it appears that there was a fence around the back yard. which may be all that is required by law in GA. 'attractive nuisance' for neighborhood kids.

my inground pool in fla. i had fencing/screenhouse around the pool itself.

it's up to people to keep their own kids out, who gain egress from house.

Over here, you have to have a pool fence, not just a yard fence. It has to be of a height and design that a child can't scale, and have a security gate with childproof latching. You have to get a DA/building permit to put your pool in and the fence has to be inspected as part of it.

If they find you've put your own pool in without it, it's a heavy fine. In this case it would be manslaughter if the fence was non-existent or proved to be faulty. Although there have been some grey areas here..

That's kinda the deal with the law. It's supposed to be applied equally.

People have been charged for letting a child drown while they were on Facebook or watching porn. I don't see the difference. Except two little girls are dead.

It seems to be a story of a 5 year old looking after a 5 year old. One can swim, one can't. Both now dead.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Paulding County father says a nanny working in his home is "100 percent responsible" for the deaths of two 5-year-old girls in his family's backyard pool.

Eduardo Juarez told Mundo Hispanico his daughter was a good swimmer and may have been trying to help the other girl before both girls went under Sunday afternoon.

But neither girl should have been outside, and apparently they went into the backyard while their caregiver was on the phone, Juarez said.

Aren't five yr. olds old enough to know better? It's not like they were toddlers who had no understanding & wasn't it raining at the time? After reading the story it sounds to me like they snuck out of the house...in the rain...to do something they knew they shouldn't have been doing.

Even an adult can drown while attempting to save a drowning victim. I know 10 year-old twins who drowned - one jumped in to save the other and they both lost their lives. They weren't supposed to be in the water either.

Maggot, I think you missed the part where one of the girls was a guest, and didn't know how to swim.

The fuckin nanny should be charged with something.

I get so sick of stories like this, where an adult can't handle watching kids, and lets them die.

GET THE FUCK OFF THE PHONE/COMPUTER AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE KIDS RETARD!!!

I thought they just charged her with Reckless Conduct (misdemeanor).

This girl impresses the hell out of me:

No pain meds for Aimee Copeland

She's having skin grafts over 'massive' wounds and is relying on meditation, rather than medication, to fight the pain.

She soon became infected with bacteria that causes necrotizing fasciitis, which destroys body tissues. The bacteria’s toxins had already done extensive damage in the days after the accident, forcing doctors in Augusta to amputate Aimee’s left leg at the hip, her right foot and both her hands.

To save the woman’s life, Copeland on Friday revealed surgeons also removed a large area of skin and fascia, which attaches the skin to muscle, from her abdomen, side and hip to keep the bacteria’s toxins from spreading to her muscle. The grafts are being performed to replace the skin that was removed.

She is a survivor.

yes, misdemeanors in GA.

could have been worse for her, but she lost her grandchild too. i guess they decided to minimize charges.

i couldn't find a photo of Sophia Juarez.

and i have followed Aimee Copeland's story with admiration and much sympathy also.

I wonder if the parents of the other girl are pissed about the misdemeanor charge? It's a slap in the face.

Hmmm, I think they're borderline close to knowing better but certainly still at an age where they need pretty constant supervision. A pool is pretty tempting.

I blame everyone. The grandma who wasn't paying enough attention (especially), the parents who hadn't taught their child to swim yet, the homeowners for not making sure their pool was childproof.

Sad.

Jesus. this poor girl. :(

The father of a Georgia woman battling a flesh-eating disease says his daughter has been suffering the worst pain of her entire ordeal.

Andy Copeland says his daughter, Aimee, sometimes cries from the pain but stops because crying hurts her stomach. She had resisted taking pain medications in recent days.

Andy Copeland said in a Father's Day post on his blog that she's now taking morphine and other medications, but they aren't enough to block severe pain, which has now spread beyond painful amputation sites.

The 24-year-old woman developed necrotizing fasciitis after cutting her leg in a fall May 1 from a homemade zip line over a west Georgia river. Her left leg, other foot and both hands have been amputated. She's being treated at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Amputation is one of the most traumatic experiences for people, especially the cutting of long bones. Multiple amputations performed at different times are almost too much to bear. That girl has a fighting spirit. My heart goes out to her.

I don't trust hospitals and doctors/nurses like I used to.
