The Jodi Arias Trial--Fatal Attraction – The Murder of Travis Alexander
Defendant's motion for a protective order (to keep her costs and invoices concealed) is a pdf, within the following:

No, dammit! It's none of your business!

Now I really wanna see that cost report, even though we already have an estimate!

I kinda miss having the Sunshine Law in this case; difficult or impossible to get a hold of hearing transcripts/docs/summaries.

P.s. My previous post was badly worded; JVM's guests thought the migraine was probably legit, not the 1 am wake up time (that claim was confirmed to be bullshit). I know everyone counts on JVM for the real deal...

Your post stated what should be said to the jury.

It was a refreshing read.

"I know the Prosecutor will leave the jurors with more to think about after he gets to question LaViolette."

If he communicates using the same tone, as your post, then he will not fail.

I couldn't find any specific judge/court order docs precluding LaViolette from directly testifying about Travis Alexander, which was mentioned on Jane Velez Mitchell's show last night.

The only court actions that I found listed for August 2011 were hearings related to Jodi's attempts to get Travis's supposed letters in which he admits to pedophilia (deemed as forgeries by the prosecution) admitted into evidence.

I don't know if LaViolette is not allowed to speak directly about Travis because of something related to false pedophilia stories (Martinez questioned Jodi about whether she told psychologist "Alys" a story related to Travis being a pedo and brought up the August 2011 hearing when he cross-examined Jodi; she confirmed that she had and Martinez then abruptly moved on - I was a little confused by that). Or, maybe the judge's order issued in August 2011 is just a general order to protect the victim who "passed away". Either way, it now makes sense to me why LaViolette's testimony doesn't seem connected to the case and may not get directly tied into Travis and Jodi's relationship by the defense team.

Here's a snip of the relevant JVS transcript.

JON LIEBERMAN, HLN CONTRIBUTOR: I actually agree with Drew. I mean, I think this is probably, you know, a real migraine, but you know, this isn`t even the real issue here.

I mean, the issue is I don`t believe this domestic violence expert is going to play that big a role in this trial at all. The reason being, Jane, there was a hearing back in August of 2011 that precludes this domestic violence expert from actually tying this in directly to Travis Alexander. And that`s what`s being missed here. That`s why she`s basically giving a course, a lecture about domestic violence. But in most ways, because of a judge`s ruling, she`d precluded can`t tie it to Travis.

MARCIA CLARK: And let me correct one thing. The prosecution is getting ready for this cross-examination now, always. The minute the witness takes the stand, they`re taking notes, they`re preparing, they`re getting ready. So even if they (the defense) stretch this witness`s testimony out into Monday or Tuesday, the prosecution is going to have the weekend to prepare with what she`s said so far, which is quite a lot. She`s really given the bulk of her testimony.

And it`s really common, Jane, for these experts to be limited to talking in general about what is the theory behind domestic violence and what happens to abuse victims and their symptomology and not be allowed to tie it specifically to the parties involved. It`s very common.

Hopefully court will resume today; curious to see just where LaViolette's testimony leads and how Martinez will address her.

WTF?

Just turned on HLN and Jean Casarez (HLN legal analyst/commentator) is testifying in an emergency evidentiary hearing regarding Juan Martinez's "rock star" status with trial watchers outside of the court house.

What a circus!

I guess the defense it trying to making a case for improper conduct or mistrial? Not clear yet.

reporterjmiguel #JodiArias seems visually amused by the hearing regarding prosecutorial misconduct 49 seconds ago

reporterjmiguel Casarez says she feared IF a juror ever saw him posing for pictures or signing autographs it COULD taint jury 4 minutes ago

reporterjmiguel Defense claims they have pictures of him doing it and that a juror may have seen it and b/c of that the jury may be tainted 11 minutes ago

reporterjmiguel The defense team is claiming misconduct b/c Juan Martinez has been seen signing autographs and taking pictures with people. 13 minutes ago

I'd like to know how someone who can't afford an attorney gets a million dollar defense.

Look at what I paid to the State of AZ in taxes this year and you'd understand.

I think it's awful when tax dollars are spent in this fashion. It drives me absolutely bonkers.

If you have $1M in assets, you must liquidate in order to pay for your defense.

If your legal expenses are greater that your contribution, you are finacially responsible for the balance.

Not Jodi.

Taxpayer picks up the entire tab.

Thanks one percenters!

I staunchly support every defendant's right to a fair trial, but some cases like Arias's really exceed the bar for "fair" and reach "outta control" status, even for a Death Penalty case (imo).

It cost California tax payers $9 million to prosecute OJ Simpson, and he had his own privately-paid-for "dream team". That's the amount spent by the LA District Attorney's office for 9 months of trial, including costs for sequestering the jury. Nuts.

In "End Times" Amanda Knox
will be sent back to prison for a lifetime
and Jodi Arias will be set free to kill again.

Well, dad went under the bus, again.

Hadn't heard anything about dad being jealous or verbally sexually explicit towards Jodi til today.

Why not? Jodi told LaViolette, but not her lawyers? They didn't think it was important? My guess is that they didn't want Jodi to have to try to defend those allegations under cross.

IDK. Lots of parents do and say things that are just plain wrong to or in the presence of their children. It's just imperfect humans raising kids; no avoiding it and it's part of life for almost everyone. Then there are those parents that are truly abusive and cruel and relentless and psyche-damaging (and sometimes criminal) in how they treat their kids.

Imo, it's likely that Jodi experienced the former like most of us, I just don't believe that she experienced the latter (and, even if she had, as Barbara noted, it doesn't mean she was doomed to become a murderous monster and a pathological liar).

ADD: This testimony about the Hughes's emails seems very damaging to Travis's character and dealings with women, but no woman has testified that he ever abused or mistreated them. I wanna hear more about the context of these emails in cross.

44 I think the public has the right to see the costs footed by taxpayers.

Thanks for posting this Tiki!

What makes her worthy of a million dollar defense above others in the same predicament?

The people of AZ must be pissed!

Agreed...to a point. Lets just say she's completely innocent..but has no means for a proper defense. She (or anyone else) deserves a quality defense, just like the prick OJ Simpson. It's a bit of a catch-22
