Whether it be high school or college, do coaches have a right to manhandle your kids? Give them a swift kick in the ass? Cuss them? What's your opinion.

I'm sure you're referring to the latest video to go viral of the Rutger's men's basketball coach. I've played and particpated on a lot of teams throughout my life. I do believe that he clearly crossed the line, both with pushing and throwing basketballs at players.
His techniques will no longer be successful, however, it was interesting to hear one of his former players (a black man) say that the coach had made him a better player and person. He did not condone the frenzy that the coach would go into, but he did credit him with having a ton of passion.

I was appalled to see him treat young people like that. I don't think that's a way to get a point across in any situation and to lay your hands on a kid in that fashion irked me but hey, what the hell do I know, maybe this happens all the time and no one bats an eye. I'm pretty sure I just heard the athletic director say he wished he would have fired him months ago when it was first brought to his attention. WTF.

He says that now, after the video got out. But he signed off on a 'rehabilitation' program for the coach instead of firing him.

You know who he reminded me of? The older, white haired coach, atrocious temper, he'd be so pissed & hopping around on the court like Yosemite Sam. I hope you know who I mean.

My kids always look up to their Coaches. My thirteen year old told me tonight how "cool" his coach is. As a Parent, you always want your kids to experience how they "should" be treated. I could not believe the actions of that abusive coach.
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

Jesus. Dontcha just love how bad behavior is rewarded. Rhetorical question. Rutgers University's fired basketball coach is due a $100,000 bonus for lasting through the season. Mike Rice was dismissed Wednesday after a video was made public of him kicking and shoving players and spewing gay slurs during practices. Mike Rice, fired after video surfaced that showed verbally and physically abusive practice habits, will still receive a $100,000 bonus from Rutgers. He would not be collecting the bonus if he had been fired in December when the university first saw the video and the administration decided only to discipline him. |
