Looks like no court until May 15.

Sorry . . . all the info I have at this moment.

I went to that site & tried to leave a comment but it appears that posts have to be approved before it will post. I'm thinking they are all touched in the head after reading a little...maybe even batshit crazy.

Rumor . . . strictly rumor.

Jodi is being confined in a jail psych ward . . . hence, the delay.

Nurmi filed a motion to have Travis' relatives video their victim impact statements as to not prejudice the jury with "emotion". The fucking gall!

Have a Mexican Meal bet with an attorney friend.

I'm betting Arias gave the interview and stated she preferred death because some dumbshit juror, while being interviewed, will say: "Why? Because she asked for it and we gave her what she wanted."

Twelve chances for someone to be (ignore Judge Stephen's admonitions) and say something stupid.

It only takes one.

Hey, even if I lose it'll be a great meal.

That phrase burns my ass! They deserve to have their say right in that bitch's face. The judge wouldn't give that consideration, would she?

I bet this rumor is true.

WTF? The "impact" of having their loved one killed and then having his name dragged through the mud is, by default, pretty 'effin emotional.

I've never heard of victims being denied the opportunity to make their impact statements in person.

Have you seen such a motion granted before, Tiki?

If this is true, I sure hope the judge denies this motion.

Allegedly, there is case law to support his position.

I'm hoping a media outlet will release the pleading, tonight.

My guess: She'll politely tell him to "Fuck Off."

I hope your guess is right.

Re-read the Arizona Crime Victims' Bill of Rights.

Point 4. To be heard at any proceeding involving a post-arrest release decision, a negotiated plea and sentencing.

"To be heard" doesn't specifically call out "in-person", but hoping the language gives Judge Stephens the legal ground to deny Nurmi's alleged motion.

He really is grasping at straws.

However, case law does appear to be on his side.

Here's the request for video taped impact statements: More Bullshit

The gist is they want a peek at them so they can raise objections and protect her various Constitutional rights.

It's fucked up. Really.

Cut through all of the legalese and the premise is that the defendant is entitled to be portrayed ONLY in a light as to why her life is worth sparing while the victim's family is limited to addressing how the death has impacted them financially, emotionally, psychologically and physically!

Phrases such as "influenced by passion or prejudice", "subjective responses", "inflammatory rhetoric" and "irrelevant information" saturate this pathetic effort to prevent accurately characterizing Arias in open court, on the record and preserved for posterity.

Yeah. It's fucked up.

You can trash a victim with unsubstantiated accusations, character assassination, lies and deceit, but one can't call a murderous cunt a "Murderous Cunt" without violating her rights!

It's 9 pages and I gave it a quick skim.

That was enough for me.

^ Absolutely maddening.

Just seeing "her rights" throughout the motion gets me pissed off.

I know that a lot of law professors and academics argue that victim impact statements are too emotional and prejudicial and don't belong in a courtroom. If they took place before the verdict was reached, I'd agree. They shouldn't be considered evidence.

BUT, since they don't occur until after the verdict has been reached and the impacts to the loved ones living with the loss should, imo, be a factor in determining the penalty, I too think it's utter bullshit to deny the victims the opportunity to look the criminal and the jury (or judge) in the eyes during sentencing.

In this case especially; Jodi Arias got to spew to the jury all the filthy lies she could conjure up about the innocent man whom she butchered, with his family and the nation watching. Fuck her.

Last night, Sandy Arias (the murderer's mother) confirmed that Jodi is in the psych ward.

Mrs. Arias said that she was not allowed to see her daughter. I don't know if that was Jodi Arias's decision or if the staff turned her away.

This confirmed today:
A day after an Arizona jury found Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree murder, the 32 year old was admitted to Lower Buckeye Jail's psychiatric ward in Phoenix, AZ.

I think Jodi is still manipulating people. I don't believe for a moment that she is a danger to herself, Jodi loves Jodi and I don't see her attempting suicide unless she knows she would be saved before she dies.

It boggles my mind that she was able to do that interview so quickly after her conviction. I thought you had to pass "go".

Why wasn't she taken straight to jail? I've never heard of that.

I saw that as a courtesy to her & I think it's fucked up. She doesn't deserve to be heard, she had her day and now it's over.

I saw that as a courtesy to her & I think it's fucked up. She doesn't deserve to be heard, she had her day and now it's over.

My mom's heard the audio of her pre-arranging that interview with contingencies for which verdict she would receive (on HLN, I think). Haven't heard it myself yet, in and out today, but understand that Arias acts like she's driving a standard business deal. What a farce that it was allowed to take place.

I don't think Arias intended to end up in the psych ward because she has no control there; I think her manipulation attempt bit her in the ass.

Hoping that Martinez is able to use the post-conviction interview against her in the sentencing phase, like he did with the Inside Edition and 48 Hours interviews during trial. "See jury, she's telling you specifically that she wants the death penalty". But, I don't know the legalities or if the judge would allow it.

I agree with you; her time to be heard is over. Arias's rights were more than respected; she got a good deal of leniency during the trial. Now, hopefully, it's time for her victims' rights (the living ones) to be respected and they'll be able to tell the jury, in-person and in Arias's presence, how her vicious crimes have impacted their lives.

^ Here's the transcript of that voice mail that Jodi left for the reporter arranging for the post-verdict interview.

Hi Troy. Jodi Arias. Umm, it’s Sunday.

I just wanted to let you know… umm, you know, a deal is a deal kind of thing, but I regret saying that. But, I’m a person of my word, so I’ll keep our deal. Umm, but, I also wanted to let you know, if for some reason the jury comes back with first degree, just come down to the jail.

Because I’m not sure how things are going to go … well, I have an idea but I don’t want to wait. So… umm, we tend to get back from court around 6, 6:30, so if the jail… you’re going to be down that way, and that’s cool, we can go forward. Umm, if it’s second degree or less, I will wait ‘til after sentencing.

But if it’s first degree, for some reason, it’ll come right away, but like I said if it’s second degree or less, we’ll wait ‘til after. So, that’s that…. Take care. Bye
.

According to HLN Legal Correspondent Jean Casarez, prosecutor Juan Martinez could use this tape in his sentencing case to show Arias' competency, "intent, and ability to understand the surroundings."

You can watch the post-verdict interview at the link that Tiki posted upthread:
http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/222000...er-verdict

No apologies. No tears. Pure manipulation, still bashing her victim, and still trying to con the public.

(Successful) cold-blooded murderer and (failed) con-woman, no doubt.

Snipped - failed con in motion:
Troy: "So if you had to do this over again, here in the desert, you notice you have blood on your hands. How do you handle it?"

Arias: "I would turn around and drive over to the Mesa Police Department."

Troy: "And what do you think would've happened to you then?"

Arias: "I don't know but it would've been the right thing. Because of what I've done a lot of people will hurt for a long time."

"There's a lot of regret because I was really hoping to get a plea and avoid talking about a lot of things that came out about him... we could've been able to avoid the murkier aspects of his life that he kept hidden... now the curtain has been drawn and you can see the hypocrisy and everything that was there."

She waited years to even admit to killing Travis Alexander, even though the writing (and palm print) was on the wall. She could have told the truth at any time. She's admitting in this interview that she wasn't in a fog while driving through the desert and knew what she'd done.

She tried to blackmail the Alexander family into agreeing to a generous plea deal. Essentially, "I'll claim to the world that Travis was an abuser and even a pedophile if you don't negotiate with me!". Bluff called, denied! She's now at the end of the Disney World hallway (Casey Anthony reference) - like a trapped rat.

Aggravation deliberations start on Wed, 5/15. The jury will be considering whether or not Arias's premeditated murder of Travis Alexander was cruel and heinous, that's required for a death penalty sentence in this case.
