Meh, don't bother. I'm sure they did find one or two, but nothing in plague proportions like that story suggests. I liked the 'bikies' comment. The Daily Telegraph lives to sink the boot into the Biker crowd; it sells papers apparently. According to the DT, if there's a drug lab, it's the bikies, business gets torched, bikies, gun bust..oops, must have been the bikies

I don't doubt for a minute that some determined criminals will make their own weapons or turn to other weapons. I'm not sure anyone here has ever argued otherwise, F.U. Still, the home-made guns in question are single shot, according to the article. And, some of them don't function/shoot at all and/or may backfire on their handlers. So, in my view, the so-called "junk guns", while certainly a threat in the hands of criminals, are less a threat to general public safety than professionally manufactured guns in those same hands.

Do you disagree, F.U.?

They're quick and easy to make at home, but I don't know if corned beef, sauerkraut and rye bread is something that is commonly found in the grocery stores over there. Other than that all you need is swiss cheese, thousand island dressing and butter to grill the bread.

I don't disagree . . . but no one asked me! I believe a home made pipe-bomb is less effective than a professionally manufactured military grade ordinance. And a suicide vest keeps you really toasty for a nano-second . . . versus a quality manufactured down or high-end synthetic insulated vest.

If this story happened in the US and the gun was constructed by a non-Christian youth . . . do you think they'd be invited to the WH and the Google tech fair?
Maybe not the Google thing. Unless it had some sort of biometric safeguard . . . assuring only one thug, just one thug, could fire the weapon.

I don't think any youth would get invited to the White House for manufacturing an illegal weapon. But, I do think that any youth going into a school looking to kill a bunch of people is going to have much less likelihood of achieving the goal with one of those home-made pen guns than with a professionally-manufactured firearm. And, I know that a youth armed only with a home-made alarm clock in a pencil box wouldn't get the job done. That holds true for me whether the youth's name is Ahmed or Joseph.
