Looking like TC as the next HC. Might not be a bad move to bring him in for a couple of years and keep our eye on who becomes available in the meantime.

ESPN is reporting that the 'Niners hired Chip Kelly.

...and the Giants gave the HC job to McAdoo.

TC backed out. Looking at Pederson, the OC from the Chiefs now. Not sure how I feel about that TBH.

I don't want him. I don't have anyone else in mind but this feels too much like we'd be settling. It makes me feel growly. Grrrr

I thought for sure Chip would go to the Titans.

I read that Chipper will have zero control over team personnel in SF. That actually might work out for him. It is after all what Lurie offered him to stay with us and I think it was the only way he would have been allowed to stay, but he balked at it.

I heard something completely different. It was said that Chip was called into Mr. Lurie's office and the vibe was such that Chip knew it was the end. There was no offer made to stay as HC with no GM power, there was no offer made for anything whatsoever, it was the end of the line. What is highlighted is what I heard from the horse's mouth, Jeff Lurie. You can find that around the 3:35 mark.

I think they were disenchanted with him from the start of the season when he made all those odd and risky moves with player personnel. They acted like they were behind him but you got the feeling it was win or die at that point. Kelley will be a better fit in San Francisco where his odder notions will be received better. At the very least Colin Kaepernick will benefit from his presence.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

I'm just going on Schefter reported at the beginning of all of this. He's been wrong before, but I really don't think you're going to get an accurate account of how that meeting went from a presser after he was fired. Just one man's opinion.

I find this a bit confusing. Chip has always stated that his scheme depends more on an accurate pocket passer than a running QB. That's why he went after Bradford.

Tell me what you know about this Pederson guy. I know he's worked with Andy Reid for years and Andy took him to KC when he left but I know little more than that. I want to be able to feel positive about the changes being made.

Kap can be an accurate passer. I've seen him hit crossing routes with impeccable touch and timing. He was much better under Jimmy than this scrub they hired and fired. Chip could incorporate more read option tho... we'll see. There's a reason he dumped Vick for Foles. Personality wise, tho, I don't see Chip being overly fond of Kap's attitude. Kaps got an ego, his whole muscle kissing thing, it's going to be interesting to see if Chip can adept his off the field policies to the NFL's type of player.

I detect sarcasm.

Not sarcasm... but not entirely truthful.

The truth is that there were no great coaching candidates out there. Chip is probably one of the better hires this year. Gase was probably the top guy, Hue Jackson got some notoriety, but honestly, nobody to wow you. When looking for a new HC, conventional wisdom says a phenomenal college coach, a proven/established coordinator who's had lots of success and seems ready to take the next step, or at worst a retread of an old head coach. After Chip, it's less likely that Lurie would have hired a college coach. As far as I know, they didn't even interview one. So that's limiting your options from day 1.

Honestly, who wants a retread? Coughlin, Shanahan, Gruden, Mike Smith, those types of guys have too much age to expect much. They're gonna want things done their way, and by the time the program adjusts to their tempo, they die off. Or there's reasons they failed at their old positions. Hue Jackson was the Redskins OC in 2003. He was with the Bengals the next year as a position coach. He was the OC in Oakland in 2010, moved up to HC in Oakland 2011, the next year, he's an assistant and special teams coach with the Bengals. That's not an inspiring record. Very boring options in the retread department.

So you look for combinations of successful coordinators, OCs and DCs. Unfortunately, a lot of good coordinators just got HC jobs in the last year or two. Bowles, Zimmer, Jay Gruden, etc. Patricia, Pats DC, was brought up by fans, but no interview I heard about. Gase went elsewhere. A lot of other guys have very little experience. I'll make that another post.

Playoff teams:
Broncos - OC Rick Dennison (just got promoted back to OC, was a QB coach in Baltimore in 2014, was the OC in Denver in 2008... but yeah, not poised for HC success), DC Wade Phillips (just God no, failed HC of the COWBOYS! Ugh. Plus failed HC of the Broncos, Bills, kinda Texans. Just no.)

Cardinals - OC Harold Goodwin (very little experience), helped by Tom Moore (77 years old, too much experience), DC James Bettcher (old DC Todd Bowles left to be the HC for the Jets.)

Chiefs - OC Pederson (He's the guy.) DC Bob Sutton (Spent over a decade with the Jets. Moved from LBs to DC back to LBs. Only became the Chiefs DC in 2013)

Packers - OC Edgar Bennett (just promoted this year over the last OC, but that guy does play calling, odd looking situation from the outside.) DC Dom Capers (Ex Panthers HC, ex Texans HC, he's 65... I guess he couldn't be worse than Coughlin.)

Panthers - OC Mike Shula (maybe shoulda been considered... Panthers were very bad last year, amazing this year.) DC McDermott (was a coach in Philly a long time, name was floated by commentators, but not much came of it. Probably equal to Pederson in "settle" factor.)

Patriots - OC Josh McDaniels (failed Denver HC). DC Matt Patricia (was considered a HC candidate, but seemingly not by the Eagles. /shrug).

Seahawks - OC Darrell Bevell (been the OC since 2011... hard to get props as the OC with Seattle's Defense), DC Kris Richard (Replaced Dan Quinn who became the Falcons head coach this year.)

Steelers - OC Todd Haley (failed Chiefs HC), DC Keith Butler (was the LB coach for over a decade.)

So, any of those guys jump out at you? No more than Pederson. Bad year to fire Chip imo.

If you didn't see that game last night live, you missed an almost unbelievable 4th quarter and OT.

I didn't but I heard about it and then I watched a short clip of that pass. I love those kind of plays. Michael Vick used to throw to DeSean like that and I always thought it was so exciting. I'd jump to my feet hollering my head off. Good times.
