^ Lt Aaron Allan, of the Southport Police Department, was killed while responding to a call about a crash with people trapped inside a vehicle.
The six year veteran, who had more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, was shot multiple times.
Southport Police Chief Thomas Vaughn said: 'Lt Allan was a hard worker and today was no different. He responded to a crash with urgency to preserve life and tragically his was lost. 'We appreciate the community support as we continue to work through the loss of our brother.'
Two other officers at the scene, including one who was off-duty at the time, returned fire, striking a person inside the vehicle, Adams said.
That person and a second person injured in the crash were hospitalized and in custody with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not release their names or discuss a motive for the shooting.
RIP Lt Aaron Allan.

^ New details
Jason Brown, a 28-year-old tattoo artist with a three-year-old son and only a minor criminal history, faces preliminary murder charges in the shooting of Lt Aaron Allan (inset right) in Southport, Indiana on Thursday.
Witnesses say shots rang out from an overturned vehicle (main) in a single car crash, as 38-year-old Allan attempted to help the occupants trapped inside.
Close family friends of Brown, who loves guns and skateboarding, have spoken out. They've expressed their shock that the normally 'timid' man would be implicated in such a horrific crime.
Brown's lifetime friend is already pushing a defense strategy = the crash affected Brown's brain and caused him to shoot.
Officer Allan had a wife and children. "(

After reading the stories, it seems the LEO's are only by themselves in their cop cars. It used to be that there were always two LEO's in the cop cars, so they always had immediate backup.
Must be the Damn "budget cuts", that are eliminating two LEO's to a car. (Maybe I'm wrong)

^ RIP Officer Matthew Baxter (Kissimmee Police Department). Baxter, 27, was married to a fellow Kissimmee Police officer, with whom he shared three young children.
In grave condition: ^ Sgt. Richard "Sam" Howard (Kissimmee Police Department) is a father and 10-year veteran of the force.
“They are both wonderful men, family men. They are both very committed to the community,” Kissimmee Police Chief O’Dell told reporters today. “They were the epitome of what you ask for in law enforcement officers.”
^ SUSPECT: Marine veteran Everett Glenn Miller, 45, was arrested after the shootings and charged with first degree premeditated murder.
Chief O’Dell confirmed that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office recently took Miller into custody under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows involuntary commitment of people in mental health crises.
The shooting may have been an ambush, O'Dell said, as the officers responded to a suspicious activity call just before 9:30 pm Friday. Within minutes, gunfire erupted, surprising the officers, who were not able to return fire, O'Dell said.

^ Sgt Howard died today. :( RIP.
Suspect Miller will likely be facing two first-degree murder charges now.
The suspect is also accused of drawing on officers when they arrested him.
A couple hours after the shooting, police located Miller (at a local bar) and when they confronted him, they say he reached for his waistband. That’s when the officer tackled him and took him into custody.
Miller, a former Marine who'd recently been admitted to a facility for mental health treatment, reportedly had two weapons on him.

Sgt Steve Perez, 60, a 34-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, perished Sunday when his patrol car sank in the floodwaters of Tropical Storm Harvey. RIP.
Official said Perez denied his family's request to stay home rather than look for detours to the station. He told them, "I've got work to do" before leaving the house.
Perez tried to get to the station to help the storm-ridden community for two and a half hours, took a wrong turn, and then could not escape from his vehicle.
Search and rescue crews were able to recover Perez's body from his flooded vehicle.
Sgt Perez is described as one of the sweetest men on the force. He leaves behind a wife, two grown children, and many friends.

The family of the confessed killer, ^ Hollis Daniels, called police to report that he was acting erratically and had threatened to kill himself. Daniels' father was a City Councilman until his term expired.
Police went to the dorm room to do a welfare check, where they said they found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the student’s room.
Daniels, 19, was arrested and brought to the campus police station for questioning.
“During this time, the suspect pulled a gun and mortally shot an officer. The suspect fled on foot and later apprehended by TTPD near the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.”
Daniels was reportedly not handcuffed at the time of the shooting and stole the officer’s body camera before fleeing the scene, according to Officer East’s memorial page.
It's not known publicly whether Daniels used Officer East's gun against him or if Daniels had his own.
Daniels was charged with capital murder of a peace officer.

Girard, Ohio
A Trumbull County police department is mourning the loss of one of their own. ^ Officer Justin Leo, 31, was shot and killed late Saturday night. According to Girard's mayor, this is the first police line-of-duty death in the city's history.
"It's personally the saddest day of my life," said Girard Mayor James Melfi. "I've known the officer since he was in the first grade."
Officer Leo, a five-year veteran of the department, was killed by a yet-to-be identified gunman after he and a partner responded to a domestic situation on Indiana Avenue at 10 p.m. Saturday. A 911 call released Sunday said the gunman had "several firearms" and had been "drinking all day."
According to the mayor, Officer Leo's partner shot and killed the gunman. An unidentified witness watching from across the street explained the moments before gunshots echoed through his neighborhood.
"We watched both officers approach the house, knock on the door. Looks like they engaged in conservation a few minutes then out of nowhere shots rang out," said the witness. "You never expect to see cops, at least around here, get shot."
Mayor Melfi described Officer Leo as a well-respected member of the department, who always worked to make a difference in the community by keeping it safe.
"We woke up a different community," said Melfi. "We woke up shaken like we never shook before. I don't know how and when we get back but we have to do that in honor of Officer Leo."
Police say the gunman's identity will be released pending notification of next of kin. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Ohio Attorney General's Office and Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
RIP Officer Leo.

^ Det. Sean Suiter, an 18-year veteran of the force, died just after noon on Thursday at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Rest in Peace.
Suiter leaves behind a wife and two children. The detective spent the last two years working in the Baltimore PD's homicide unit. Before that, he investigated non-fatal shootings in the city.
Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Wednesday that Suiter 'was just doing his job on behalf of this city' when he was shot. 'And that’s what he’s been doing for
Rick Willard, a former co-worker on the force, described Suiter as a 'good cop' who 'was smart and smiled a lot'. 'Everyone that worked with him loved him. Even when you were down he would smile what his mischievous smile and make everyone happy and feel at ease.'
He was shot Wednesday afternoon, at around 4:30pm, after approaching a suspicious man in the Harlem Park neighborhood.
Police continue to search for the man responsible for killing one of their own. Not many details available; I hope the PD has a line on the suspect.

I've only been there twice and enjoyed it. But, I get what you're saying. The murder rate in Baltimore has risen over the last couple of years and is way too high.
MURDER RATE PER 100,000 (2016)
1 St. Louis 59.3
–
2 Baltimore 51.2
–
3 New Orleans 44.5
–
4 Detroit 44.9
–
5 Kansas City, MO 26.4
–
6 Memphis, TN 31.9
–
7 Cleveland 35.0
–
8 Chicago 27.9
–
9 Cincinnati 20.8
–
10 Philadelphia 17.7

Violent crime and murder nationwide is still lower than it was in the 90s, but it's up for two years running (for police and general population). http://bismarcktribune.com/news/national...8e.html#31
The disturbing increase in mass murders and fatalities per incident could put some new cities on the top 10 list for 2017.

Such a shame. I went to school near and then lived in Baltimore for a few years. Loved my time there, but even back then (close to 30 years now), it wasn't that safe of a place. Just a little beyond the Inner Harbor/Fells Point area is very dangerous ground. Now it seems like even the well policed zones are getting picked off.
The city has been mismanaged for decades, like so many of the others high on that list you posted.
