MOLLIE TIBBETTS - 20, IOWA - Missing/Found Dead
#1
This is a sad day for the family and friends of 20-year-old college student Mollie Tibbetts (rest in peace).

Mollie with her boyfriend Jack Dalton

Five weeks ago, on July 18th, Mollie was reported missing.  She was last seen jogging that evening around 8:00 p.m. in Brooklyn, Iowa. It's not clear if Mollie returned home after her jog.

Police, her family & friends, and community volunteers have been searching for her ever since.  A $400,000 reward was established for her safe return.

Police had narrowed down the search area as their investigation progressed.

Mollie's boyfriend Jack opened a Snapchat from Mollie at 10pm the night of July 18th which indicated Mollie was indoors.  However, it's not known what time it was sent.

Mollie lived with boyfriend Jack Dalton, his brother Blake Dalton, and his brother's fiancee -- all of whom were out of town when Mollie disappeared and none of whom are (reportedly) suspects.

A pig farmer with a criminal history, ^ Wayne Cheney, was questioned early on after a red t-shirt that may have belonged to Mollie was found on his property, 100 miles from where Mollie was last seen.  He has not been charged with anything.

The FBI said last week that they suspect Mollie was taken by somebody she knew.

I was sad to see this story updated when I signed on a few minutes ago. I've been following it since she disappeared. This is small town USA, the kind of place some people don't lock their doors. There are monsters everywhere.

Mollie's father, Rob Tibbetts ^, had just returned to California from Iowa when the announcement was made that Mollie was found dead today.

Mr. Tibbetts had been holding on to hope that Mollie was with someone she knew and there was some kind of miscommunication.

Police have not released the location of the body or provided any other details.  They will update the public via press conference today at 4:00 pm local time.  I hope they have a solid suspect.

I've been following it too and was really hoping that Mollie would be found alive. I'm curious to hear more about where and how she was found at today's press conference.  LE has been pretty tight-lipped during the investigation.

I look forward to hearing more too. I read that the FBI said her abductor is hiding in plain sight. That sorta gives me the willies.

The older I get, the more I think there is danger everywhere. I used to be fearless and I can no longer say that.

This is so sad! JUST over the weekend I had my 15 year old read this article because she wanted to go jogging by herself. My neighborhood seems pretty safe, we have been here for 10 years. BUT YOU NEVER know who is driving by or who is watching.

Breaks my heart. I could not even Imagine!!

Curious, HOW far away was her body found from the Pig Farm??

Police say a man in the country illegally has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts.

A charge of first-degree murder has been filed against 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera. If convicted, the charge carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Investigators say they used surveillance video in tracking Rivera. The video showed Tibbetts jogging in a rural area near her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa, as well as near Rivera’s car on July 18.
Earlier Tuesday, investigators announced a body believed to be Tibbetts was found in rural Poweshiek County.

Tibbetts, a 20-year-old student at the University of Iowa, had been missing since July 18.

A federal agency says Bahena Rivera is a citizen from Mexico who was in the country illegally.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement released a statement Tuesday stating it had “lodged a detainer” with the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office to hold Bahena Rivera after he was charged.

At a news conference, Rick Rahn, special agent in charge with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said Bahena Rivera had been living in the area for four to seven years.

Greg Willey of Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa said he learned of the discovery from a close family friend of Mollie Tibbetts on Tuesday morning. Willey said he had no other details about the discovery but called it a “tough” ending to the search for the college student.

Tibbetts vanished from her hometown of Brooklyn, a town of about 1,400 in central Iowa. Investigators said she was last seen on a routine jog through the streets of the city. It’s unclear whether she returned to the home where she was dog-sitting for her boyfriend and her boyfriend’s brother, both of whom have said they were out of town when Tibbetts went missing.

Willey’s group has been administering a reward fund that raised nearly $400,000 for any tip leading to Tibbetts’ safe return.

Mollie's body was found within 10 miles of the farm land that was searched and four miles from Cheney's home, according to this updated map and article.

I think there was an error in the previous article about the shirt being found 100 miles away, or I typed it in wrong in post #2.   I don't think the shirt turned out to be relevant though.

I'm so sorry for Mollie's loved ones and a little relieved that it wasn't someone she knew and trusted who killed her.

"During our neighborhood canvas we came across an individual that had security cameras. We took those cameras, he was kind enough to give us the footage from it," said Special Agent Rahn.

"And through that we were able to identify a vehicle that we believe belonged to Mr. (Christhian Bahena) Rivera. We were also able to find Mollie running on this video."

When authorities interviewed Rivera, he said he ran near or behind Tibbetts, she then got her phone out and told him to leave her alone. She then ran off and he chased her down.

"And then he tells us that at some point in time he blacks out, and then he comes to, near an intersection which we believe he then placed Mollie," said Special Agent Rahn.

Rivera is being charged with first degree felony murder, which carries a penalty of life without parole.

The fact that the killer is an illegal immigrant is included in the very first line of the suspect announcement Duchess posted in big bold letters, Mags.

He reportedly murdered an innocent young woman, confessed, and led police to her body. I don't much care if he was a DACA recipient or not. He's a piece of shit. However, post a link if you've got some information indicating that he's a DACA recipient.

Anyway, here are some more actual facts and information about the suspect and his confession. https://heavy.com/news/2018/08/christian-rivera/

If he is he better be registered!

Lets see if CNN, MSNBC, or ABC,runs it, I bet ABC does first just to be the first to garnish viewers. FOX will surely run the story. After all the hype time will tell if the left ignores it to slap the Manafort thing around or actually reports the true story. This is a test just to see.............and the poor girl would probably be getting ready for another run if this perp was not here.

Why the hell do you need to interject your political ponderings into a thread about the murder of a young woman, Maggot? Rhetorical.
