That mouse!! I love it.
I can only imagine what the MacPro can do! Umm... exactly. 2 GRAND!
Other than the mouse I can build the exact same thing as a Linux machine for around $800. Hence my fucking point. NOT WORTH THE MONEY THEY CHARGE YOU.

to me it's worth it. You cannot build a machine with the display, the body or the look.
sometimes that plays into it. Why get a big fat tower with all those wires when only a monitor/body, mouse and keyboard will do the same?
It's compact man! That is worth 2K to me.
It does not run Linux - another bounus for ME.

Actually it DOES
You can install Linux on it

I noticed you didn't say you can make it as pretty and compact.
I meant to say it doesn't come with Linux standard - sorry for the miswording. ::finger::

I meant to say it doesn't come with Linux standard - sorry for the miswording. ::finger:: Except you can make it pretty and compact like that. You can buy that monitor/case from the manufacturer without the apple logo on it and build it that way. Of course, I don't remember the price difference between getting that and a conventional tower and flat panel.
A small addendum to my previous post. I don't like those stupid iMacs with their combined system anyways. If the monitor pukes, you have the whole damned thing down. Whereas with a traditional tower + monitor system if the monitor dies you can hook another up and keep going. And vice versa, if something happens to your tower you can swap that out (yes, I know most people aren't like me with multiple towers so I have a backup if need be... but still...). Any system that has a single point of failure that can kill the whole system sucks. Home PCs have enough single POFs as it is, you don't need to purposefully insert another.
I agree with D regarding the 'one piece' systems.
Sure, they are sleek and beautiful, but as the person who is called in to work on the damned things when they break down, I can tell you that the 'one piece' design is NOT a great idea.
People never think about their shiny new toy breaking down when they buy it... but they do and the more complex they are internally, the more difficult and expensive they are to repair. Definitely invest in the 'three year warranty' if it's offered, because it's probably less expensive than just one visit in the shop.
Depending on what has to be replaced on the machine, the 'out of pocket' expense could be nearly as much as you paid for the entire system.

So how often do either of you repair Imacs compared to the IBM compatible machines?
And does the manufacturer actually sell that casing without the Apple logo? I am thinking Apple patented that casing design as it's own and it's not available. To do othewise would be bad business of them.

And if you want a nice sleek machine just get a small form factor tower. Dell sells some very nice ones. (Though I don't like paying for name brands dammit!) Not sure what anyone else has available in SFF machines these days, but I'm sure they're out there.

Umm, just as often if you go by percentage of ownership. If 80% of people own IBM compats and 18% own Macs, and the other 2% own off the wall stuff like Cyrix, then 80% of my custom will be IBM compat, 18% Macs, and 2% other. Which I turn away both the Macs and the "other" because I don't have access to their hardware usually. Which is another thing, only Apple certified techs could get their hardware before. This may be different now, but that;s how it used to be.
Also, so people don't get confused, iMac does NOT mean Intel Mac.
Yes, the only one they have the rights to is that 27 inch because its their custom design with the extra high def beyond 1080p.

When I purchased my dream laptop, I also bought a 2 yr. in home warranty that I thought would be worth every expensive penny I paid for it...It was worthless...I would never do that again.

Well, it depends on who the warranty is from. But I'm curious, why was it worthless? Because you never had problems with it, or because the warranty itself sucked ass?

It was worthless because they refused to honor it...I become irate just thinking about those fuckers at Dell.

Read my reply again. I said the only one I can't get is the 27" with the custom pixel density.

Let me be more specific airhead:

That was the question.
I responded to that in the same fucking post. Well, to Macs in general. Of those I'd say about 70-75% were iMacs. So, there.
Its not a fair comparison unless you go by percentages of users. Which is why I wrote it the way I did.

Even if you never use it, it was worth it. You may not think so NOW, but TRUST me, ALL BRANDS of computer (and especially laptop) end up needing expensive repairs. You end up with one blown motherboard and your insurance policy is more than paid for.

What? That's bizarre. I do Dell/HP and Sony warranty work all the time.
Was it a Dell warranty? Or some other company?
