GOD
#1
Someone said there was a car accident that killed 3 teenagers & injured a couple others. She went on to say how hard & sometimes scary it is to raise kids to adulthood and a man said "the only effective hedge is the hedge of God. Teach you kids to trust God". I didn't say a word. I've been showing a lot of restraint recently, my Mom would be so proud. Anyway, I believe in God, but I wouldn't dare profess to be God fearing, I worship him in my own way and it's not through going to Mass. God doesn't keep people from getting sick and he surely doesn't keep them from being killed in car accidents. Is there anyone reading this who thinks he does?

We know next to nothing about God, so what sense does it make to make dogmatic assertions of any kind?

I think agnosticism is vastly preferable to both theism and atheism, primarily because it's the most honest position to take, and the only one that can be supported rationally.

You believe that saying God doesn't keep people from getting sick or killed in an accident is being dogmatic?

If God is an infinite being (wouldn't be much of a God if he/she wasn't infinite) then it can do whatever it damn well pleases. So I think it's more a case of, is that something God would want to do? Obviously I don't know, but I can conceive of circumstances in which it might be done. For the most part, though, I think God is not a micromanager, and instead wants us to learn by trial and error.

God keeps me from being killed in car accidents and from getting speeding tickets. When the cop asks me who is at fault, I say "Jesus took the wheel."

Humans make the mistake of being God's or even understanding it. It's understandable. Humans are ignorant.

Was raised a Catholic by my folks.
Made First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Sacrament of marriage.
Leaned on God when things went terribly wrong, or needed a miracle, and or the like.

Over the years, seeing people as well as myself pray to God for help, and majority of times help didn't occur started to bring about doubt. Seeing God fearing people die a long painful death, while awful deceitful people flourished, brought about further doubt.

Today, hate to say, think don't really believe there is anything after passing on. Is there a Heaven, Hell, Purgatory? No one knows.
Many say Heaven, Hell, Purgatory is right here on Earth! If you're rich you're in heaven, poor in hell, and just comfortable, in purgatory.

When the the church can't answer curious logical questions, they just say, you must have faith. Well . . . . . . . .
