If it's campaign fundraising then it makes sense. If it isn't then only the stupidest of the stupid will go for it. Given the timing and his decision to run again, I guess it's fundraising. I suspect that hasn't been going well for him so he's foregoing the more traditional methods. Next he'll rebrand himself as a born-again Christian.
