There. That's more like it. There's the curmudgeon I know and love.

I felt bad for Zelensky having to do that. I saw some pix and he looked hugely uncomfortable standing there while trump talked about his great relationship with Putin. Goddamn I want to nail that motherfucker with a brick. Mock is the only place left that I can say that and get away with it.

The only way the meeting could have been any better is if Elon Musk were in the room.

Ukraine lost Back in 2014 when the US and NATO set up shop and began militarizing for the ostensible purpose of "defending democracy". It's gone very, very badly for Ukraine, yet people like you still defend what the West has done. It's like you don't think the results matter, all that matters is "democracy" was defended. The nation has been devastated but goddamn it, democracy was defended! I know you hate Putin but making important decisions on the basis of emotion is ill-advised. Doesn't seem like you appreciate that.

So, do you still want more war, and if so, what do you think it will accomplish aside from more destruction and loss of life?

I want them to have the opportunity to fight back without restrictions.

Putin is not our friend.

"Them" means the US and NATO, because Ukraine no longer has the ability to wage war, defensive or otherwise. It's beaten. Fighting without restrictions would result in European cities being devastated in a manner similar to what's happened in Ukraine. The end result would be more of what the US and NATO have achieved in Ukraine. Russians would undoubtedly suffer but Putin would be warm and comfy in a hardened bunker. The US would be targeted with EMP devices and cyber attacks, which would result in the death of millions. No power means an extreme decrease in life expectancy, and that's before the intercontinental ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads start flying, which would be the grand finale.

That sounds like the sort of madness one expects from the Zio-Christian nutjobs that want to hasten the Rapture.

To be clear, all I see is you suggesting Ukraine should roll over for Putin.

I'm stating that Russia has defeated Ukraine militarily. The war as it presently exists is between the US and NATO, except that the two are unwilling to formally declare it, perhaps to maintain the illusion that Ukraine hasn't been defeated.

Russia is willing to accept NATO's surrender and allow it to keep what is west of the Dnieper. If it refuses, Russia will continue to advance and take the whole of Ukraine, and there isn't a thing NATO can do about it as far as conventional arms are concerned. The only option left for the US and NATO is to escalate to the use of long-range ballistic missiles, which seems to be what you want. What do you think Russia's response will be? It has an advanced nuclear capability and will use it if it feels it is necessary for it's survival. How exactly are long-range ballistic missiles going to change this equation? You honestly don't think Russia will launch it's long-range ballistic missiles at the nations that are launching them into Russia from Ukraine?

How are long-range ballistic missiles going to change the equation?

Which one of 'our' leaders told them that?   Hmmm?  And hey, while we're at it,  who is going to pay for that?

The AP is reporting that Biden has authorized Ukraine to use the long range missiles we sent to be used inside of Russia. Good. It's about time.

What do you think Russia will do in response?

If launching missiles into Russia results in more bombing in Ukraine, what's being accomplished?

Russia has limited resources left and they have brought in North Koreans to die on the battlefield because they are running out of people to fight.

From what I've seen Russia is doing fine. They've lost less than a quarter of the soldiers Ukraine has and are steadily moving forward into western Ukraine.

I guess we live in separate realities.

How many of those assertions don't apply to the US and NATO, why didn't you provide a link to the sourcing, and why hasn't that assessment led to a negotiated settlement? If Russia no longer has the wherewithal to continue the war with NATO why hasn't it thrown in the towel and agreed to a complete withdrawal of it's forces?
