I read an interesting article written by a reporter who lived in Russia during Putin’s rise and left shortly after the start of the war in Ukraine. In short she wrote that people are generally resilient (or have a survival instinct) where we tend to adapt to new normals pretty quickly. She saw that in Russia but it was a much slower change. Institutions and rights and norms were gradually eroded and people almost seemed to forget that anything resembling free media (for example) ever existed. She was comparing that to what’s rapidly occurring in the U.S. but didn’t speculate as to whether the rapidity would end up making a difference.

One of the first headlines I’m seeing this morning is about military vets being arrested in DC. They are there to protest trump’s stupid parade. Man. Tanks on the streets of DC. Arresting 80 year old vets. This is some crazy shit.

An 80 year old vet, with a walker wanted to go sit on the steps of the capital. It was blocked by bicycle stands, him and others breeched that and they got arrested. Fucking stupid.

Even tho I am often skeptical of our media I admit to be somewhat shocked that ABC would outright lie. This was not a massive parade, not by any stretch of the imagination, and there is a fuck ton of pictures and video to back that up.

Maybe not the onlookers, but the parade itself?

Point taken. I had not considered that so I went looking for a breakdown -

• Aircraft: Around 50 aircraft participated in the parade, including helicopters like the UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache. World War II-era aircraft, such as the B-25 Mitchell bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter, also flew over the parade route.
  
• Other elements: The parade also included:
  
  • 34 horses, two mules, and a dog named Doc Holliday.
    
  • The Army's parachute team, the Golden Knights, jumping onto the Ellipse near the White House.
    
  • Country music performances by Warren Zeiders and Lee Greenwood.
    
  • An enlistment ceremony where new recruits and returning soldiers took their oath of service.
    
  • A fireworks show to conclude the event. 
    

The nations that have military parades usually have mandatory attendance. Trump still has a lot of work to do.
